hello, newbie here! I have a 94 Q45 which is the love of my life! I started my love of cars back in the heyday of the american muscle car 68 cameros, shelby fords etc. As i got older, migrated to more exotics, jags, bmws, mercs. I have been wrenchin on something or another for 35 yrs. In my own opinion, This Q by far out performs them all in design, driving ease and dependabilty. A excelent compromise of performance, comfort, and style. I want to be buried in this car! MY only problem with this car is the lack of techincal info.My FSM aways seems to give just enough info to cause problems. My local Inifiniti dealership is a day home for idiots. I think the mechanics ride the "short bus" to work! They ether don't know or won't share a thing with me. The parts dept. isn't too bad as long as the guy has got a picture to look at! Which brings me to this forum . I am thrilled to find the amount of good knowlege and helpful people here. I have a ton of questions for you guys and I aplogise in advance for asking stupid questions. A few, which I can get no help with are....1 the speaker in the drivers door has a bad connection, it comes and goes depending on the bumps. What is the procedure for removing the interior panel to access the speaker?2 It's time to upgrade the suspinsion. The front shocks/spring install looks straight forward and the steps look obvious to me . but the back? what the trick for getting the rear seat back removed? this one step has me stumped!3 The car has a drivetrain vibration between 2250 and 2400 rpm. I know this has been discussed and debated before, but I never read a solid solution. Is there one? the local "infiniti pros"? give me blank stares when I inquire about this.I have several projects and ideas with this car that are sitting on the burner because of lacking in solid and honest information. Any advice shared will make this ole' Q-bie a happy man

Welcome to the forum!

Many of us simply love this car. I just bought my FIFTH one! The car seems to apeal to many facits of motorhead geekdom. Its fast, its beautiful, its smooth, its rare. It has an uncanny connection to the road that feels right. Its great around town and on the highway.

Best of all, you have a family here to share with and be a part of.

1. Pull/slide armrest away from the door (towards the rear, away from the door hinges)

2.Remove screws and gently pop the panel loose from the door.

3.BackDoors have hidden screws behind ashtray assemblies(sp?).
ckau967 wrote:2. what the trick for getting the rear seat back removed?
Accessing the rear strut towers is done through the trunk, on either side of the fuel tank.

Rear seat removal requires folding down the center armrest and popping the slip cover loose to gain access to 4 screws.

There are also 2 screws, (and 2 bolts, one for each shoulder harness), behind the bottom half of the rear seat.

Bottom half of the rear seat should have pull tabs, that once 'pulled" you simply pull upward on the seat.

Not sure on this one myself. Only vibration I've ever had was speed related, not rpm. (The steel "belts" were coming undone on front right tire, rack bushing on passenger side was excessively worn and driver side had disintegrated.)

If it is 50 mph in 3 or 70 mph in D with OEM specified 26" diameter tires, it is most likely the third (transmission) engine bearing support. Replace the exhaust hangers also. Order from http://www.infinitipartsusa.com Sure your primary engine mounts are worn too, so probably not a total fix.

I remember Camaros with the RS and Z28 options also. Monoleaf springs. Woooo Hoooo!

Always liked the Shelbys with the roll cage and the shoulder harnesses.

Welcome to the best place for the knowlegeable Infiniti owner. Sounds like your dealer is a Senior Technician short of a real shop.

Non Michelin tires tend to resonate with the body, suspension spring frequency between 55 and 65 mph.................if the vibration speed/intensity tends to change as tires warm up you often have your answer.

Warped rotors can add to tire vibrations or create a coming and going vibration at a 1-2 second rate as things add and cancel.

26" tires are only 26" when unloaded...........usually the 12.3" [loaded radious] instead of 13" is used in formula [2 x 12.3 x pi = 77.28".

Remember the front tires have more weight so their diameter will be smaller than the rear [less weight] so front and rear will have different resonant freqs.

Hello,

The real experts have already chimed in, but since I asked this same question 3 years ago..

The stock answers to your question are:

1, Tires, Balance wear ect, remember the Q is really sensitive.2, Brakes, my current car had a nasty vibration and it didn't seam like brake rotors, but it was. I turned them and it took the vibration out. It didn't seem like rotors because it was not consistent, it would come and go..3, the already mentioned engine, transmission mounts.4, The driveshaft, have no experience here, but have read on the site it is a common problem.5, Was told by Joe years ago that the crank pulley/dampener ( sorry if I am calling this the wrong name) gos bad, again no experience here, but have been told it will cause this kind of vibration..

Lots of things to check, none are horrid, some are pretty expensive, I think that there are directions for everything in the articles section if you do your own work..

Oh, again something I read on the site that is helpful if you are a garage guy, when you do the front springs have both sides of the car lifted or the stabilizer bar will be compressed and you can't get the bolt to line up on the spring mount.

Now THIS is what I am needing!!!!! thank-you, people for the straight answers . I constantly get the message, they [ the factory] obviously wants to keep me in the dark, spell that more "dealer business". now I can get on with the suspension refurb. Can anyone direct me to a parts list of the rubber , bushings, etc that can/need to be replaced while I have the four corners broken down, It has always been my experience to replace as much as possible with new. It is worth the extra expense and time. It is just as easy to rebuild with fresh parts than go back with potental future failures. The old saying" It's only as good as the weakest link" always comes to mind. Maxnix, I believe you nailed that vibration problem. I had already ruled out any sort of tire/wheel, brake problem. I replaced all brake rotors with crossdrilled , balanced units, I use michelin speed rated cop car specials, used by the local law enforcement. I get these through a friend{who shall remain nameless to protect the guilty}. I had suspected motor mounts. replaced them , improvement, but not a total cure. This car is used 90% of the time on interstate travel. I live at the coast on the weekends. Depending on traffic and road conditions, I love to kick it up a notch, 130 plus mph is not unusual. Blowing the doors off a beamer or a vette is my favorite travel diversion.

Ahhh, a true Q owner!

It has been posted in a list, but just call http://www.infinitipartsusa.com as they carry it also in a kit with the Tokico blues.

Tell us about the Michelin pursuit tires. Z rated? Size? Wear and load rating?

Indeed!

I, too, use mine almost exclusively for Interstate travel, and I succumb to exactly the same temptation, heheh. This is what the car was built for! It's a true Autobahn machine.

And yup, your transmission mount is shot. Be sure to do the exhaust hangers while you're in there.
