Hello!
I have owned several Datsuns:
2-1972s
1-1976
1-1983, The Special Edtion KingCab with two-tone paint and factory sunroof, miss that one, didn't know what I had.. :?
1-1997 KingCab

I only have the 1976 and one of the 1972s right now.
I noticed that several questions have come up about suspensions.
In 1988 I used the king pin assembly(all parts between the control arms) from a 76' pickup on my 72' I had then, worked great, saved from rebuilding the 72 kingpin assembly. My experience is that the suspension is virtaully identical between the 72 and 76. My question is, since the disc brake option apeared in 77 or 78(don't remember), I wonder if it can be retrofitted to the 76 and back trucks. Or did the crossmember change then too? Just curious. Another question, has anybody performed an old school frame clip swap from a hardbody onto a 521? That would be the shiznit there. That is the swap I am considering anyways... Gotta take measurements track width, frame width, etc.

Welcome...

unfortunately the 620 disc unit is not a bolt on swap...

somewhere around here I have the how-to-swap a 720/521 frame...I'll post it up if I find it...

Wow, that's a whole frame swap. I guess the wheelbase is close enough to do such a thing. I could see lots of benefits to a complete frame swap. I was thinking of more of a cut and weld option. cut the 521 frame and weld the 620/720 frame onto the 521. I had a 49 Chevy pickup with a Camaro clip, worked great with that heavy of a vehicle and it was strong, my 521 should be ideal for such a swap.
Anyways, just brainstorming. Ever known of anyone doing a Mustang II type of swap? I checked Heidt's the most narrow setup they have is 56 inches track width. I haven't measured my 521 yet, so I don't know if the Heidt's is narrow enough.

OK, now I have an even more radical question...
Has anybody ever tried a Chevy 2.8L-3.4L V6 transplant? The 60 degree V6 would nestle perfectly within the engine bay and length wouldn't be a concern. Inceased power, readily available parts, and possibly better gas mileage. I could see a serious downside to cooling though. Narrow radiator opening/support...

If I remember right, width is something like 49-50"...not sure with out measuring it...

I have a 4.3 V6 and have measured it as well and it will fit with only needing a modified oil pan and pickup...weld up a trans mount and custom built driveline....but would need a stronger rear first...already broke one stock rear!
oh, and disc's! must be able to stop it!

Did you break the stock rear with the 4.3, becausing I am scrapping my blazer wit the 4.3.  It was broken in to and the it was deemed a total loss, and they want over $900.00 to buy it back, they can have it, I have been wanting a 510 any way.

nah...I toasted the rear with a good L18 and a few good burnoffs!:D I haven't put in the 4.3 as it still is in the Astro it came in...waiting for the body to fall apart first!

I think I may have found a solution to disk brakes, I'll be back with it in a few weeks, this could be simpler than many think.... ;)
BTW, track width on mine is 50" Way too narrow for the Heidt's setup, would have to be custom made. I think the Mustang II suspension would be perfect if you wanted extreme handling or carrying the weight of Chevy V6s and V8s. Anyways, my .02 worth...

I have a 71 521 frame with a Ford 289 engine, C4 auto transmission, Narrowed Ford 9in rear end, and Ford ranger disc brakes on the front for sale.  It's ready to finish or I will consider selling parts.
