Hello im a newb, Looking at a 90 240sx

Hello guys,

Im currently looking at buying a 1990 240sx, just wondering if there are any major problems on this year or anything i should know before buying. And for the guys who have one, how has the car treated you? Thanks.

Anyways, love the site i've been checking out alot of threads on and gaining alot of info on installs and things like that.

Also wondering if you have any canadian members in the Toronto area.

its a sohc engine instead of the dohc in everything after 91. other than that reliable good car.

yeaahhh just check for rust, if it's a hatch make sure that the hatch lid part isnt rusted under the spoiler if it has one. Listen for a clickey timing chain- that can cause problems down the road. The shifter will feel kinda loose, that's normal... uhmmm the antenna motor will probably be broken.. check the bottom of the frame (the unibody rails) to see if the previous owner bent or warped them when trying to jack the car up. No big deal if he did it a little (I have too), but just make sure its not real bad.. Thats all I can think of for now-- its a great car though, just drive it and you'll see!

Listening for the timing chain rattle when you start it up. Listen to the engine closely, sohc notoriously have lifter problems as well. Just drive it, get it inspected by a certified nissan tech. Happy Buying.

Hey,Welcome to Nico! You need to take a step back and decide what your over-all plan is for your 240. Some like to drag race, some like to auto x, some like to drift, and others like to show.

Unless you are getting a great deal I would look for a 91+ so that you get the DOHC motor to start with.Of course if you are planning a motor swap then that wont matter.

Well i have some ****ty news, just called the guy and the car was sold, i was planning on purchasing it in 3 days. So im pretty disapointed about it. I guess ill have to keep on looking

im having a hard time finding any good ones in the Toronto area. Anyone in toronto that can help me out?

*sigh* ill have it one day.

Well im going to look at another 240 tonight, Looks good so far, 1 owner, its a 91 coupe not the hatch, goldish colour with leather. I'll let you guys know how it turns out.
