My problem all began with a crappy idle. I checked out vacum leaks, timing, plugs, 3 different mafs etc. The car ran fine however it did not idle. I was rewiring the the mafs plug to fit the 3 plug connector when two of the wires touched, i didn't disconnect the battery, so i got sparks. Well, maybe I was high of exhaust gas, but shortly after that I did it again. I get the wiring done and when I start the car up not only does still idle crappy but now it pours black smoke out of the back. God I am an idiot. Obviously it is running rich. Perhaps an injector is stuck open? Did I fry my ECU? If so could I have created a short in another place. If I buy another ECU and hook it up will it fry the new one? Lots of questions... Also I have a s13 blacktop in an s13. I did all of the work myself, that is probably the reason it is all messed up. Thanks for any help, or you can just make fun of me.

Did you just buy a MAF from a guy that was listed as a Silvia MAF but wasn't?

No, the MAF was certainly off a SOHC 240. I just messed up the wiring. How easy is it to fry the ECU?

Run the codes on your ecu. Try disconnecting battery for a few minutes and hooking it back-up

One of my friends did something similar on his 240. When we opened up the ecu there was a burnt wire on the board. So I soldered it back together and ran fine afterwards. So most likely when you touched the wires together you shorted the wire out and it burnt. Takes ten minutes to take out the ecu, open it up, and look for anything black and separated.

Well, I tried disconnecting the battery; didn't work. I couldn't find any obvious problems with the ECU. I ran the car with the MAF unplugged and the 02 sensor, just to see if those were sending bad signals. The car idles alright in "safe mode" but the exhaust is black like the night. How can I check to see if an injector is stuck open. Also any good places to buy an E5 ecu?

thanks

I'm pretty sure the ECU isn't fried. if it was, your car wouldn't start at all

check your MAF circuit since you did the swap yourself. chances are that the wires you soldered may have broken.

its okay man, we all make mistakes. NICO turns enthusiasts into hobbyists, and grease monkeys into technicians. thats why we're here to help you, bro. at least you tried, so thats cool.
