hello, am a new s13 owner. 92 KA 5pd 150k with minor timing chain rattling. I just got the car less than 2 months. I really wanna know how do you guys take care of the car?

How often should I change the motor oil, and what should I use? how is mobile 1 extended performance 10w-30 or 5w-30. I heard that 10w-30 will reduce the timing chain rattling. am thinking to change motor oil every 3k, is that too often?

How about gear box and differential fluid? how often and what should I use?I saw the post from SANIOLL said that mobile 1 75w-90 GL 5 for differential (am in north california, should I use 80w-90?)and redline 75w-90 GL 4 for gear box is good. what do you guys think of it and how often should I change both of the fluid?

is gear box fluid and differential fluid the same fluid uses in two places? or they are two different fluid? (the number looks the same and both are called gear oil, so.... same or different, am so confused....) Is the differential fluid and clutch fluid the same or they are two different fluids(or clutch=differential)? I heard that gearbox oil = transmission oil, is that right?

Thank you for reading my post, guys.I appreciate your helps, thanks.

How often should I change the motor oil?Every 3000 miles 5000 for synthetic10w-30 Castro none synthetic just fine. Now if you have a new engine and plan on doing some racing use synthetic and only synthetic.

If you have timing chain rattle you should change your timing chain tensioner out? This is not hard but it is not easy either.

How about gear box and differential fluid? They use the same fluid and again use Castro 75w-90 GL 5 every 70000 This depends on how many miles you have now and how hard it has been driven and will be driven.Use RED-line or royal purple if you are going to the track ever weekend, don't waste your money.

is gear box fluid and differential fluid the same fluid uses in two places?Yes same fluid in two different parts of the car.

Is the differential fluid and clutch fluid the same?If you have a manual transmission which has a clutch the answer is NO.Do not mix these fluids or you will be in a world of hurt. The transmission and rear diff take a thick gear oil, The clutch takes a hydraulic fluid much like the power steering or brake system. BUT DO NOT MIX THESE EITHER. The manual will call for different types of hydraulic fluids in each of these pieces.Back to your clutch the reservoir for you clutch should be close to the brake reservoir and smaller than the brake reservoir with a twist on cap.

Hope this helps, These cars have very simple systems to learn just keep asking questions and don't be afraid to get you hands dirt.Don't be a poser and have some one else you you man work for you Then try to call you self a tuner.

Ciao

change your oil every 3k or 3months NO EXCEPTIONS!! oil is cheap and motors are expensive.10w30 is fine i use it, i live in new orleans

manual transmission and diff fluid is the same, red line and royal purple are an overkill unless your a racer or you dont know how to shift and find yourself grinding alot of gears.

clutch fluid and transmission fluid are two diffrent things and should not be confused.

clutch fluid and brake fluid are the same.

power steering fluid is its own animal.

if your timing chain is rattling you need to remove the two upper guides, there was a TSB about it, thay are junk and you dont need them (not to be confused with the upper chain tensioner wich you really really need.) if its the lower guides than you need to change the whole chain and guides with tensioners, its not a job for the timid.

if you just bought your 240 get the oil changed and lube everywhere you can..if you dont know how take it to goodyear and tell them to "make shure you grease all my fittings.......and i wanna watch" then insist on watching, you may learn something.

winter is coming get your radiator flushed and filled, its good for the car and our motors are easy to overheat (it will help in the summer as its a once a year service) also if you dont know when your thermostat was last changed get it done. USE ONLY NISSAN OEM THERMOSTATS aftermarket ones are smaller.

let your car warm up when its cold, your car will thank you.

last but not least love your 240 and it will love you back (just keep your pants on)
