I' always wanted to check out linux, but since I got XP I kinda lost the desire since I haven't had any stability problems.

XP is the worst yet, my box locks up on me or has a bad error once a week at least, ive had to reset it to factory defects 3 times due to fatal errors when i wasnt even using it !

Does anyone elses XP start to boot up really slow?!? So far lots of ppl I know have had that complaint and my XP is currently doing that. Even after playing with msconfig its still slow compared to when I first had it.

My machine w/ Xp Corporate boots up from the time I hit the button to 'ready to play' in 13 seconds.

Linux is good, XP Pro is good, 98 is good, ME is the worst operating system ever created and will continue to be the worst operating system ever created unless Bill Gates craps in a box and sells it as windows p00p.

They made ME because the people wanted a new OS, and microsoft had to rush around to get it done....... They have more problems than a late 80s BMW 7 series!!!!!

I have very little experience with XP, but I personally dont like it much..... I am so used to 98 (and I know A TON about it also), i dont want to learn another one (that is probably more complex and evil)

That's odd. Ive been running xp home edition for several months now since I built my computer and It has never crashed once. Sometimes certain programs will crash, but never for any unexplained reason. maybe it is something in your box itself that XP doesn't like. And i haven't actually timed my boot up, but it is pretty quick. I ain't saying xp is better than linux, I still want to try it out, but I just haven't been as motivated as I was before since XP is such an improovement over previous windows versions.

my xp home computer has turned to crap. everyother game I try to play on it makes the computer restart for no apparent reason. trying to print from notepad (I don't have ms word) makes the computer freeze. trying to connect to the internet after comming out of standby makes it freeze. trying to scan something makes it freeze. uploading pics from the dig. camera makes it freeze.

the 98 computer in my room decided to not detect my cdrom drive anymore. my new computer (new, reletive to how long I've had it) has xp home on it, I can't get it to detect the modem, so I'm still on my pentium 200 with win98.

and damn updates take to fricken long to download on a crappy modem connection.

Damn. just curious do you use surge protectors? I just wanted to know if they realy work or not. I suppose if lightning hits your house even a surge protector can only do so much.

I have a surge protector, but it fried the modem through the cable line..... The TV cable in the same room as the computer (with cable modem) is not right either, some of the stations are really fuzzy...... I can tell you one thing, im going to get a new modem tomorrow, this dial up is driving me crazy!!!!!

The surge protectors are designed with a sort of fuse in them, so that when it gets struck by lightning, it will sacrifice itself for the sake of the computer.....

I.....am feeling......... a bit......... verclemft........ This kind of stuff gets me every time :D
