I'm new to the forum. I am currently working on my wife '99 Pathfinder. Its a 'self healer' as she calls it.
The self part, that's me. Healer? not sure at this point. In repairing it, as I do take care of it. She is one tough SUV!! I'm old school. I'd rather dig in and figure out the problems myself and correct them. Not to many of us around. But here, I think so. My latest project with her car which really has been few. This time she seams to be at a low idle; 600. She had a crack in the bellows to the intake. When I took it apart, the bottom of the bellow was so brittle it fell apart. Her symptoms were: 1. stall. 2. stall in reverse. 3. not warm up, stall at a light. The Miss's was freaking out..not bad but upset. I've since corrected that problem. At first I thought, which I should have done some time ago, change out the fuel filter.
I did that one night at 32 degrees here in Summerville, SC. That was not it. It needed it anyway. No problem. Next day, It still refused to run right. That afternoon while she was at work I changed the battery out. Nope. I appeased her. She's sometimes right I'll have too live with it forever when I do not listen, no worries there too. I then hit the Haynes book and trouble shoot'd. Vacumm!! Found that crack in the goofy bellow elbow to the intake. If I had the dollars to burn. With no dollars, I chucked the elbow. cut a section off as a spacer. Moved the turkey neck thing up to the intake. Dismantled the air box and moved it 5-10 deg. in the direction to straighten out the path of the intake to the airbox.
I'll take a pic and post it should I get some time. Sunday nights my down time and this is cool to be here just journal-ing away with you'all.
Hopefully the memory in the SUV gets updated now that she is not running so poor. Not great but better. Next look is Advance Auto for some OBD tickets. That will be Wed. Ya..Wed. See Ya!!
