I just picked up this 64. I thought I'd be the only one in the world with one of the thus making finding parts and etc. for it absolutely impossible. BUT...her after my good friend Google I find this forum full of good advise, parts locations and seemingly (yet to be absolute) a bunch of good folks.:D

5 bills got me this no rust having 70,000 mile gift of history.

Those are the pictures from the site I bought it off of. I have yet to bring it home. It runs, just needs a starter. Still has the engine hand crank!! That was a surprise. And some little shat kid shot the windshield and passenger side glass out with a bb gun. I'd like to find him and put a bb in his....

The contributions to this forum are great  and have already been a huge help, thank you.

Welcome aboard.
You have an early '64....hence the '63 grill.  Nice rig.  Looks like the seat bottom is in backwards...the "wedge" should slope to the rear.

For reference material....go to www.olddat.com ...the 620Tech section and download the factory manuals for it  :)

Mike, I'm thinking the seat is upside down. Also noticed an extra logo above the big "D"  on the hood. Looks like a wonderful truck to start with. Way to go Sausage!:)

Ah, an early 64 does explain it. I thought Datsun may have been like Jeep and Ford back then, trying out different parts and pieces regardless of year and make. In my searching i think I have seen a 65 with the same grill. He could just have a 63-64 front. Who knows.

The seat is in backwards isn't it, I didn't even notice, funny. It feels right when you sit on it.

Thanks for the comments...it is very clean with the only rust (i just found) under the battery. 2 big 9in holes but should be an easy fix.

That emblem on the hood above the D is a strange one for your collective gray matter; it says "Skylark" and looks to be original. In all my research I have yet to see mention of a Datsun Skylark.

As good as it get on the pic until i can take more.

Sausage, did you buy your truck from a druggie? Skylark:) I think Buick had a model called Skylark, maybe a previous owner decided to name the truck. Can't wait to see more pictures. Ken

Yea it's possible. The guy I got it from is a kid maybe 18 or so and apparently the last owner was an old guy who let the 320 and an old cady sit.

I'll get some close ups of that emblem up as soon as I can.

I don't know about the 'early 64' thing. Mine is 00727 and it had what you must be referring to as the late grille with the turn signals in the lower corners of the grille. I have the other grille on mine now because the one it came with was beyond repair and the '63' grille was the only one I could find at the time. I actually found three of them wrapped in paper in the trunk of an old Datusn sedan in the junkyard, paid $10 each for them, sold two at $25 ea. and put the other one on my truck. That was back in 1981. I think Datsun just randomly used what they had left over..

I should check the numbers.

Do you think many people here would hate me if I ripped the original heart out of this truck and replaced it with Suzuki Samurai, four wheal drive and all.

I thought about it one day as I was trying to figure out where to get a part. And there in my back yard was a mostly complete Samurai with low miles. I plan on driving the hell out of this little truck and wanted parts availability and of course the four wheel drive will be nice.

Going to do it right though (for all of those who are disgusted with the idea). It will look stock, as if Datsun had built it.I've done some PhotoChopping, and the lift looks pretty good. Not to over the edge or tall.

At this moment the engine and tran are sitting in the bed waiting for me to give them away, who needs them?

One more on the funny side, I realized the title says it's a Datsun Skylark!

The kid I got it from put the emblem and some trim on before getting a abandoned title.

I'll have it retitled as Datsun HMMWV

Yeah, that is strange.

Now, does it make sense that mine is 60420 and has an early grille?

Then again, I think mine says '63... Hell, I dunno.
