but man, he ate my food once i hit 3rd. i ain't stupid, and since the WRX has been on my wish list years before it was released in N america, i knew what it was capable of. I just wanted to see if i could take him off the line, nothing more, and i had him by about 3/4 of a car in first, 1/2 in second, but got smoked in 3rd, badly. Anyway, before you guys start ripping me about he didn't launch properly, you need to relax.

anyway, i redeemed myself when i totally anilated a 97-98 golf, not sure what model it was cause his badges were shaved, although his exhaust was the same as mine (Bruellen). Man, he didn't stand a chance!!!not really worth bragging about since it was probably a base models.

s14, It is very easy to bough your launch in a WRX. Trust me I know, I have done it a few times. You get excited, you let off the clutch too early, you over compensate by hitting the gas and.... ugh! :doh You go know where.

Sounds like you did a good job against the WRX. I would probably take you out back and throw you a beating if you didn’t school that Golf. Come on, its a Golf! Good job.Later bro,

lol, THANKS ZERO, I'D DESERVE A beating if i lost to the golf.SINCE YOU OWN ONE, (wrx) I GUESS you'd know best, but i think I'd have a chance taking you off the line as well!

;)

93, we were at a red light, his window down, i glanced over while he tossed his cigarrette butt, reved my engine, and gave him the glance. my exhaust is fairly loud, and we were playing cat and mouse for a while, when we were approaching the lights.

he knew what he was getting into, trust me, he's probably just scared to rev to 6k and pop the clutch. I ain't one of those rice boys that sit at a light, wait for you to shift to 2nd, and then floor it, trying to make them look bad (happened to me too many times).

either way, i'd trade my baby for a scooby anyday!!

i rode in bud's scooby, and it hauls. with 3 people in the car, it felt SO FAST. we didnt' really get into boost either. got to about the top of 2nd, and it was haulin. i wish we had more road to get into third and let that boost show its maximum potential.

The WRXs are really nice. Just yesterday, this guy went by the other direction in a white one. Even coming off of the stop sign at low RPMs, the blow-off valve sounded really good. In the rear-view, I saw the subtle N1 exhaust.

The shop that is doing my car has a nice blue WRX, with all the bolt-ons. They tried to use the Electromotive system to tune it, but the automatic transmission wigged it out.

I've yet to run against one, but they seem plenty plentiful around here. I look forward to having the engine swap done, and being able to head out to the drag strips. What sort of quarter mile times are the WRX's doing with basic bolt-ons?

If I had ~40k to blow on the base vehicle and tuning, I'd have totally snatched up a WRX. As it is, I got a 240. =)

I'm soooo tempted to pick up a 2003 WRX. I don't really want a car payment, but I've heard there are really good deals to be had. With the 2004's on the way and the tasty Sti's, dealers are trying to get rid of the old WRX's. I've heard some are going for < invoice. One of my friends bought one, but the ******* hasn't let me ride in it yet! ;)

On the other hand, the new WRX Sti's are calling to me. I'm a huge WRC fan, so when I see that big wing and that blue and gold paint scheme, I can barely resist.

my dads got a wrx. it's a fricken blast to drive. grips the road like a demon. but my dad found out after some research that the computer cuts the boost to like 7lbs in first gear, then to like 10 in second, then in the other gears it gives full boost.

just a ECU and a boost controller?? maybe a little more like internals and a upgraded turbo and/or FMIC, Ex. wastegate, Bov, etc. b/c i was reading on i-club some fool just kicked it up to 18psi with a boost controller without doing anything else and blew the turbo or the engine i forget which one. ive been planning to get one(with little financial help from my parents heh heh.. my paycheck aint fat enough..yet) just want something with a little more zip from the factory

no, the ecu is programmed to cut boost low in 1st and 2nd, this has nothing to do with the internals capability of holding that boost, if u simply remap ur ecu, and add a boost controller, and turn the boost up to i htink 1opsi u said was the maximum allowed by the factory, then you will get your full boost in the lower gears as well, o yea, i cant find any pics of her on kazaa :(

To all of you that want to trade your 240 for a WRX, I've got one for sale for $16,900 OBO

Let me tell you though, I have a SCCA ITS 240sx race car that only makes around 200hp and 200lb/ft of torque, and it's loads more fun than the WRX. WRX is brutal on the launch with just and exhaust and boost.

For the record, yes, the ECU limits boost in 1st and 2nd, but a boost controller takes care of that quite nicely. Stock boost is 14lbs. About the most you can run safely on the stock turbo is 17lbs.

FWIW, the WRX doesn't launch very well in stock form unless you beat the hell out of it (rev to 6k), so I can see a 240 beating a guy that doesn't really know what he is doing in a WRX.

*drools* I saw one at our local track running 14.50s. The guys said it was bone stock, don't know how true that is. I know I want a STi. Anyone know how much boost the engine itself will hold?

On the stock turbo, it starts to detonate over 17psi.Max boost depends on the turbo, but with a turbo upgrade, some have pushed around 25psi on race gas for about 350hp to the wheels.

the best my dad could do at the drag strip was a 15 second quarter. and he still didn't have a great launch on that one either. I'd say it's possible to get a 14.5 with a stock wrx

How so? Like, what can you do in the 240SX that you can't in the WRX that makes it so much more fun to drive? Or, what are the differences in driveability that lead you to the statement you made?

My car for sale

The 240 is more fun to drive because it's RWD. I'm not into drifting or anything...I'm a racer, but AWD just doesn't take any real skill to drive fast through corners since it is so forgiving. I guess my driving abilities have outgrown it.

I saw an STI last weekend or it had sti badges wing and rims but who knows it looked bad ***. Some kid in a scooby pulled up next to me at a light today i look at him and nod he just tries to act cool i leave the stop light normal and he takes off then cuts in front of me to turn left at the next light. I dant care if his car is faster he still shouldnt try to be all ballsy and drive like a dumbass

A scooby beat a friend of mines mustang gt by a crap load and he had 4 people in the car those things can move with minor bolt ons
