Car: about to buy altima coupe or g35 coupe

Post

Im interested in buy a 04 g35 coupe rebuilt for 6,000. with 75,000 miles on it. There is also an altima coupe 3.5 manual (been hearing horrid things about that cvt) that is rebuilt for 6,500 with about 90,000 miles.

Im in a bubble about what to buy. They look similar but the G has more prestige. The altima has better mpg. I actually like the cabin of the altima better compared to the dated G35's. But i also want performance and the G just looks that much better. Mpg is big to me though, I drive A LOT, im a realtor. What do you guys think and why?
Do the G's require a lot of maintenance, are there any major problems? How do you feel about gas?

Honestly, no comparison....the Infiniti wins hands down. However, used cars can be tricky. Search the board for a similar post about an 03 with high miles. Same answers apply.

my old 2005 G35 seemed bullet proof... just fluid changes, brakes, and tires... and i drove it like a bat out of hell almost eveyday. went from 18k to 72k miles on the odometer in 2 years.

G35 wins.

The price of the G sounds pretty reasonable (the cars have been fixed right?). I bought a wrecked G for 3,500 and if I would of fixed it back to factory I would of had 6,500 in it. It was a 03 automatic tan interior with black exterior. 74,500 miles.

Check with your car insurance company for either one - vehicles with rebuilt titles can be awfully expensive to insure if your company will even insure them. Same goes for financing (if you're not paying cash, that is.).

Other than that, it really depends on what you want out of a car. Are you looking for something that is just nice but a sporty coupe and don't really care about performance? The Altima is it - cheaper to own and maintain. Want a sports car? The Altima shouldn't even be on the table (I have owned an Altima Coupe and I currently own a 370Z and have driven G35/7s). The Altima is a great car for what it is, but I feel people become disappointed with it because they see it as a less expensive alternative to the G series when in reality they're two totally different cars.

Having traded a 3.5 altima coupe on my G37s, I can tell you there is no comparison. I wanted a G35 coupe since they first released the pictures of them back in 2002. The altima coupe came out, I thought it would be a good compromise as it looked very much like a g35 coupe on the exterior, yet was FWD and so a little more predictable in low traction conditions. Later my wife got a EX35, and it made the altima look like the low rent car it was. Even after upgrading the altima to heated leather, in dash navigation with a backup camera, it still was less than satisfying. I got rid of it last summer and have no regrets. The altima coupe was a good fun car, and reasonably quick (3.5SE) but not a sports car. The G is better in just about every conceivable way. If you really want a G, don't settle.
