My 91' 240sx has been fuming out heavy white smoke from the exhaust whenever I accelerate. I know that white smoke is usually caused by coolant, but I'm not sure where to begin to take care of this problem. I also saw dripping from the waterpump, or something that looks like it. It had a belt around it, so I'm guessing it's the waterpump.

Please help me diagnose this problem and possibly fix this. Thanks it advance.

i you have white smoke coming out of the exhaust then 99.995% of the time its a bad head gasket. as far as the water pump leaking that is probably the cause of the bad headgasket and is likely bad too. change both the pump and the thermostat, the headgasket and you will likely need the head decked to bring it back to true if it has overheated its likely warped slightly and will cause your new headgasket to go bad prematurely. sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

ok do this, check the coolant is it like chocolate milk? and check the oil is it runny? if not its not a head gasket, have a friend stand behind the car and you rev it and see if that white smoke smells like gas. if it doesnt check the intake mani, i had a coolant leak from the water passage into the num 1 cyl and it did it along with a fuel leak. oh yea and change the waterpump and therm its so easy a caveman can do it
