Heavy S14 doors?

I met a guy at an SCCA race with a 97 s14 and when he was looking at my car, he mentioned how much heavier my doors are than his. Does anyone know if the doors on the 96 are really heavier or if it was just a figment of his imagination? If so, has anyone ever put lighter doors on an s14? It seems to me that the doors would be the same, but I really have no facts to back that up.

You could take out the lock, the auto windows, the paneling, carpet, and weld the doors shut?
