I was just looking at pics here at someone’s post and they heave pics of inside hood and I just realized I heave never opened my hood before and if it was not 9:40 pm I would run outside now to see what’s in there ) but second question is why would I open hood on brand new car with no problems ? I do look inside my maxima almost every day but car is 10 y/o and I want to make sure everything is ok inside since I want to keep the car for next 10 years ) lol

I opened my hood before I bought the car in March, and at least weekly since. My thought process is this: if I don't know how the engine is set up, how can I know how the specifics of how it works? If I don't know the specifics of how it works, then how can I know what's wrong with the car if anything does go wrong with it? I'm not going to leave myself at the not-so-tender mercies of the Nissan dealer just because I'm under warranty!

Umm why?To know where everything is. If you only open the hood after there is a problem, you might be SOL.More seriously though, even though the car is new, you do need to check fluids regularly, make sure bugs or leaves are clogging the rad, battery terminals looking good...etc. I'm sure others will chime in with other specific items they look at.

...sorry, as hard as I try, I can't answer this question....its just tooforiegn to my ears.....the question should read...."Why haven't you ever opened your hood?" But, just goes to show that there are probably many people out there that don't, cause you can't be the only one....logic dictates that if there is one person, there are many.....You really need to at least look under there...I don't know, maybe check the oil periodically or something....get to know your car.

I always look under the hood BEFORE buying a car, just to see the engineering behind the vehicle (one of the reason I bought the Rogue and not the Outlander).

And after buying the car and got home, I open the hood again, just because I am happy of my purchase... and it smells good.

Not checking under the hood (at least 1x/wk IMO) is a sure recipe for trouble, either minor or major, especially given today's long factory service intervals.

--Minor trouble: You run out of windshield washer fluid during a blizzard, bug storm, trash spill. etc..

--Major: Oil, coolant, battery fluids get low.

Please people, at least refill your windshield fluid so you don't hit somebody or something you can't see and maim yourself or someone else.
