In the "quick Reference" book, it states on pg 7, "defrosting/defogging" Turn the flow dial to defroster. The A/C automatically comes on, when defroster is selected.Which makes sense the compressor always turns on with defrost. But, it doesn't. It actually does the opposite. When I put it to defrost, the A/C light does not come on, but when I go from defrost/defog to the air flow to foot, center/side vents, the A/C light activates. So, it comes on only coming from the defrost mode..like it's working in reverse. So, when we drive down the road, wants to defrost the front windshield, turns it to defrost, then comes back out to the heat mode, ..A/C light comes on..we'll have to manually turnoff the A/C switch, so we won't run the compressor.Does all the Rogue SL do thisThanksBarry

Ours works as described in the manual. I'd recommend having yours checked out.

BarryJMine works like yours, but if you read the service manual part HAC 9, ours are working correctly (if I read the service manually correctly). I will ask the dealer next week.

It's just very confusing...

The A/C does indeed work when defrost mode is selected so long as the outdoor air temperature is warm enough, but Nissan chose not to have the A/C light illuminate. When you switch off defrost mode, the A/C light comes on to indicate A/C is needed to prevent further fogging of the windows. You have the option to then turn it off manually by pushing the button.

There is nothing wrong with your Rogue, it's just the way the system works.

Doh -- should have checked before posting. Ours works the same way as all the others in this thread (AC light does not illuminate). Got my cars confused.

At least it's better than my '03 Altima. Once you selected defrost mode, the A/C would run until you turned the ignition off. Pushing the A/C button and/or selecting vent mode had no effect!
