heater hose question

i just found a big *** leak in my heater box under the dash somewhere (dunno where). It's been causing coolant loss to my cabin and I just realized it after my car almost overheated.

My Q is can I connect the 2 heater outlets coming out of the engine (under the intake manifold) instead of running it to the firewall into the cabin? This is just a temporary solution until i figure out what's wrong. I think this makes sense but I just wanna make sure. Thanks
