I am new to the site. I recently purchased a 2000 Q45 with 125K miles. I noticed that no warm air comes from the heater or defroster. My first thought is that the thermostat is stuck open, but even when the car is registering normal operating temperature, wouldn't there be some warm air coming out. I live in Phoenix so it never gets below 40 degrees or so.

Thank

Do you have any coolant leaks? Have you had any overheating problems? Have you checked your coolant levels at both the radiator and the reserve tank? If you get air in the coolant system, the heater can blow cold because of air in the heater core.

If your coolant is fine, then I'd suspect it's something in the climate control system. I'm no expert on any of that, though...

Correct - If the engine temperature gauge is in the middle of the scale, the coolant should be hot enough to produce plenty of heat inside the vehicle. So, it sounds like either your blower isn't working, or the air isn't being directed where it should.

If you push the blower speed switch up to its highest setting, can you hear the blower running?

If you push the AUTO button, turn the temperature knob up as high as it will go, and then push the dashboard vent button, does hot air come out of the dashboard vents?

Thanks. Yes blower works but air is always cold even with the temp set at 85 degrees. Is there something in the auto climate or a door not operating that may keep it cold? If there is air in the heater core by letting it idle with the radiator cap off remove that air?

I ran diagnostics on the climate control and it showed an error code 27 (bi-level door motor). Has anyone ever replaced one of these? Was it difficult? Thanks

I've got the same problem with my 1994. I'll be watching this thread closely.

Any updates on this? I have the same problem and found in older Q's its the blend or mixing doors linkage broken. Does this apply to the "97-"00 Q's?

Thanks.

I also have this problem on my 97 Q . Error code 27(bi-level door motor) Im just trying to find now how to get to that bi-level door motor to check it. Im thinking it is right under the passenger dashboard and i will need to remove the air conditioning control panel to get at it. Anybody know how to get at it or done it before?

The factory service manual (FSM) should tell you where to look. I think the '97 copy is incomplete, but the '98 should be the same.

Has anyone solved this problem, or is there a write up on it? It seems a few of us have this problem, I don't really won't to rip the dash out unless I know what I should be looking for.

Thanks.

I have not fixed my heater problem(bi-level door motor) yet on my 97 Q but when i took off the glove box
to check the ECS computer i did noticed that you can get a good look at where the 98 Q45 FSM manual says the bi-level door motor should be. I dont know if you can get at it by just taking off the glove box or if you have to also take off the AC control and vents. Hopefully, someone who knows more about this can chime in and help.

Hopefully some of the FGY33 posters here have changed their cabin filter! Once you have it torn down to that stage, hopefully not much more is needed to get to the bi-level mixer motor.

I tried to find the bi-level door motor on infinitipartsusa.com, but I cant seem to find it. Is it listed as something else or does anyone know the part #? If I can get the part I'll try to do a write up if it works.

It turned out to be the heater core. If you have the bi-level (bi level) motor error code 27 it's possible it could be the heater core as well.

Hope this helps.

Got my car back from the shop, it was actually the "valve" on top of the heater core (how they described it) I'm guessing that's the bi- level motor and door. They couldn't find a replacement, so they wired it to stay open. Heat works great now!

I have a similar issue. My heat blows fine on 85, but turn it down to 84 or less, it blows cool air?
