What's up guys.. New member here but I feel at home already since I used this forum as a lurker for a few years but never posted.
Anyway, I have a 1999 Infiniti Q45 Touring model. My grandfather bought it new in 1999 and when he died he left it to my mother and after all these years I have been doing all the repairs and maintenance on it.
To this day people stop and comment on how nice it is. Just in the past few months I have had guys stop to ask me if I was selling it or just stopped me to compliment car. The Q45 T has a timeless sporty look that outshines its predecessors.
Anyway, my heater core has decided to go out. I'm fixing it myself no question but just for kicks I called the dealer and they want $1600 to fix it. Wow. All the parts from Rockauto will set you back $55 including the air cabin filter and even though the FSM says to remove the dash I'm pretty confident that isn't completely necessary if you're an experienced mechanic.
Removing the dash requires removing the steering wheel and special coated bolts that can't be reused for the airbag and that's just too much work for a heater core that should be accessible once the cooling unit is removed. I normally go by the book but sometimes you have to improvise.
I plan on updating this post for the next Q45 owner after I get the job done.
