HOLLY SMOKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My heater works, but is very slow in giving me heat. Even with the temp gage showing motor is warm, it is another 10 min or so after reaching warm temp before heat comes out. I was thinking the heater core must be partially plugged for this to happen so I decided to look into getting another one. $282.00 for one???????

You can probably get a used one for next to nothing from a part-out on the forum.

I would just remove yours and flush it out really good. It's most likely just clogged up.

If you do decide to replace it, do NOT buy a new one.

I think my brother actually has one sitting in my basement right now.. I'm sure he'd sell it cheap.

I'll ask him and get back to you.

Thanks man, I will wait to hear from you. I was thinking of just taking hoses off at fire wall and try blowing air through it(compressed) to see if I could free up any blockage. I don't want to do that until I know I get get another one reasonable for fear of blowing it apart!

Replace the Thermostat first or try sticking it in boiling water to see if it opens.

Good luck.

Did that a couple weeks ago? I just checked, and core is not plugged. Air flowed through with absolutly no restrictions. I now notice the top hose that gos into the core through firewall gets very warm LONG before bottom hose gets any change at all in temp. Seeing as how the temp control is all electronic thather then a manual cable/valve, I am now wondering if my climate control might not be opening the valve to the heater core all the way? I am going to live dangerous and post this over in the mechanical section of Nico. (I always get slammed at other forums on Nico beside here) I am wondering if I am on the right track. Any of you northerners know if this is a extremly slow heating car?

Here is the link to my question in the Techincal area for those that want top follow along.zerothread/293453

Yes, exactly! Its just that it is taking wayyyyyyyyyy to long to get hot. Like I said, almost 15 to 20 min. AFTER the temp gage is in normal operating position. Does that make you think of anything specific?

Mine was a little slow to heat up when I first got the car, but it works excellently now. The previous owner never drove the vert in the winter, so I guess it needed a little exercise.

if you do end up needing a replacement, we can work out a price for the one in my donor car.

it'll be much much much much cheaper than any of those new ones.

OK, I was thinking about it all day today. The top hose that gos into the heater core got warm fairly quickly while the bottom hose stayed cool. I am wondering if maybe the hoses could be reversed? I mean if the flow control valve is on the bottom side, and it is getting its water from radiator rather then from block, it would take much longer to heat up. Could someone with a good working heater check and see if their bottom hose going to heater core heats up before the top hose?
