How difficult, time consuming is it to pull the heater core? I can't find anything in the archives for a 720.

to be honest... i'd rank it up there pretty high in the pain in the a** category.

when i was stripping my interior, the heater core was the last thing i took out... this was because it was UNDER just about everything else

i know for sure the center console needs to be moved out of the way, and the removable piece below the glove box (dunno if it really has a name but its kinda self explanatory).... once you do both of those... you'll be able to see and access the heater core but i'm not sure if you'll be able to actually remove it without pulling all the other piping and such out of the way first

and of course... don't forget drain all the coolant first

Pretty much figured it was going to be a pain. But I don't have a choice. Its peed coolant all over the passenger side. It's too cold to keep driving with the windows open.

Okay, so to get to the radiator drain plug, I have to pull the plate off first, which looks like more than the three screws I could see up front.

the plate has a few screws... and also uses two of the bolts that serve double duty holding the sway bar on

I have finally gotten to the heater core. All the foam on the doors and around it is toast. Is there something I can use to replace it?

Pezi, you were right, major pain in the assets to just get to. But I decided to replace the thermostat while the system was empty.

I'd replace all the hoses as well.

Fortunately for me I do not have to worry about the cold, so I'm using a universal blower to air condition the truck.

i am currently doing a heater core with the help of my dad on my '85 720.

Where can I get the foam to replace the foam around the heater core?

I ended up using upholstery foam I had gotten from Fred Meyers. Don't know if it will work, but its in there and better than nothing.

The replacement core I got isn't an OEM. Now the sliders don't work as easily as they should, but there isn't anything I can do about it. The copper coming out of the core comes out too far before making the turn. At least it isn't leaking any more.
