It was leaking so I bypassed it using a temporary fix.

When I replace the hoses, my options are to either plug the ports for the heater hoses or make a small bypass loop.

I'm read some of the older threads (most of the pictures no longer show up) and some say closing the loop will improve cooling.

I'm in Florida and a heater is never needed so I'm not ever going to reconnect it.
It actually runs a tad warm on the hottest days with the a/c on so I'm looking for any advantage I can get.

You have to loop the hoses, bypass, you cant just plug the heater core with the hoses connected.

Will it cause an overheat situation?

It's hard as hell finding a coolant schematic.

Is your cooling fan working properly? When I lived in Florida, I used Purple Ice and that helped with the slight overheating, but I later discovered my fan clutch was giving out. After replacing it and switching back to regular coolant, I had absolutely no problems.

It just seems off to have water from the hot section flowing directly flowing to the cool section. Seems inefficient.

BTW, side note: Can anyone explain to me why the coolant goes through the intake manifold?

The reason the water lines run under the plenum is so that the coolant flows through the throttle bodies. You can do the bypass on this to not have the coolant run under the plenum and into the throttle bodies, I did it to both of my z's.
