Hi all, my girlfriend has a 1996 q45 and the actuator on the blend door (air mixer) is broke. Her ex started working on it, but they split before he finished. She said the dash was off and she hired someone to just put it back on so she could drive it. I'm going to at least close the door so she can have AC this summer. I've read a few articles on the forums about repairing, but the thing is I don't know where the door is located. I read something about removing the radio and the heater controls. I've never worked on one of these cars before can someone enlighten me as detailed as possible how I gain access to the blend door?

There are at least two posts about repairing the door. Find them and study the FSM. You don't want to put it back together without repairing the door.

It also might be in the articles stickies.

Thanks Maxnix, I downloaded the FSM, and attached an image of the pages with the console, can you tell me which pieces of trim need to come off to access the door? I assume 12 the radio and A/C controls come out (from reading the repair article), is there anything else that I need to remove? Or do I need to remove some other pieces of trim first in order to get the radio out?

:welcome: to NICO hendu!

Here's an article about repairing it. http://www.nicoclub.com/archives/q45-he ... ement.html and the thread that spawned the article heater-problems-broken-heater-post-t156041.html

Unfortunately the pictures have drifted off to the intergalactic bit bucket...

Thanks Q, I read that article last night and the thread, really wish the pictures were still around. I'll get it figured out, just wondered how much trim I was going to need to remove and exactly where the door was, so I wouldn't have to go hunting for it.

Start with the passenger kick panel. Go from there.

Ok, got the glove box out and could see behind the radio to where the linkage was suppose to be. All there was was the half circle piece of metal with some of the old plastic stuck to it. It looks like he removed some of the pieces. I was able to turn the little half moon metal piece with my fingers (that turns the door right?) It didn't seem to make a difference to me, the air didn't seem to cool down. The door seems to fall down when I let go, is that the cool or heat position? I saw in the post about fixing it with the nylon rod that one guy said he just takes out the radio twice a year and turns the knob. What is he referring to? Also, I noticed that the blower only runs if set to max. Is that most likely the darlington resister? This is turning into a nightmare, any help would be greatly appreciated.
