Background

Upon purchase of my vehicle back in 09, the SES light was on. First thing i did was change all fluids so on and so forth, did brakes and pulled the code. It was a bad passenger cat... Cool... left it up untill lat week.

SOOOOOO

Prior to the exhaus being put in, Codes were pulled to double check. Turns out i had a new code hidden in there. small leak Evap. Mechanic told me to grab a new cap. Ok... carried on.

i had my entire exhaust systm swapped out. Catalytics (both) pulled and swapped, from there, a full 2.25 to muffler piping was installed, and from muffler to tip i had 2.5.

No SES light cuz everything was cleared.

2 days after i got everything i couldnt be happier... then... LIGHT D:

Brought it back to the shop and the checked it again (love these guys to death cuz they have been honest and cheap with me, free scans and free hardware on installs)

Im getting a passenger side heated 02 sensor and the small evap leak.

They insisted i ge the gas cap and stated that i should get the 02 sensor.

NOWW... i got hte gas cap. and im hoping that maybe the computer wasnt used to the cats or something and just needs to be reflashed again because they were not there before the cats got put in. should i have it cleared to see if it will come back? or go with the swap.

Inno,
I would try clearing the codes. See if it comes back or not. If it does, then replace it. The NGK (NTK) sensors are direct plug in-No Splicing required. I started replacing sensor tonite, stil trying to figure out how to get to some of the clips. Pretty sure I am just going to cut them and use zip ties (zap tries for the Great White Members).

Alright... had the codes cleared yesterday... and low andbehold this morning i got it again... So im just going to outright assume the sensor is bad. Before the cats were put it, it gave me the "running rich" code... after the cats, it gave me the heated sensor code... Any advise would be handy before i make the purchase this weekend.

Side note :: I was talking to a fellow R50 Owner at the dealership earlier this morning and the topic of gas mileage came up. He gets 400km before the light even comes on... I get 300km AFTER my light comes on....

The one thing im not understanding is... How could 1 sensor cause such a dramatic change? Could there be something else?

I've done a full exhaust from cats back.... No resonators, straight piping to muffler etc. Removed spare tire.... There is a sub and an OEM bar up front but thats all aluminum and shouldnt do that much to my Fuel economy.... COuld a missing skid plate cause that much drag?

Anyone got any advise? the only thing that shows off my CEL is the bad sensor now. The evap leak has been taken care of...

The rear O2 sensors are not supposed to have anything to do with mileage, just emmisions. Missing skid plate isnt going to cause much drag. Mine has been off for about 2 years now.

Innovan, you changed out the cats, size different, explain the sizes, the pipe ID did you go bigger ID or smaller ID or is it the same? The pipe ID changes the volumetric gas sizes and could lead to erroneous O2 reading of rich vs. lean as the exhaust gases may have a different volume chamber to travel through. The sensors may be too slow in reaction time to what is happening there, it's doubtful that they are too fast. How old are the O2sensors in time and miles? At about 60-80 K miles they are responding too slow. Try to clean the surface of the O2sensor, this is just a brief fix.

The cats are OEM fit. Piping goes down to accomodate the sensors and from there is cut to put in the new piping (as stated in earlier post 2.25 inlet 2.5 out)

The driver side has been changed before by previous owner (cut and connect style)

ive come tot he conclusion that i sould just suck it up and pay 120 to get the new sensor (which i have) OEM replacement BOSCH from rock auto. Praying that will fix it and ive run it by the dealership. They state i should reflash my ECU as well for software upgrade (not sure if it will do any good)

I travel approx 310 km on 62 litres of 91 fuel. I think there is something wrong there. i should be getting more at least 350-400

insight?
