heat wrapped i/c cold pipe

whats up ive got a 92 240sx with an rb25 yada yada...anyway ive been debating on buying some of that heat wrap stuff and wrapping the pipe that comes out of the cold side of the i/c and snakes between the radiator and head/valve covers to the intake manifold in it. i know that stuff is supposed to keep your engine cool by keeping the heat in your exhaust in your exhaust but, wouldnt it also work to keep that pipe from heating up due to engine bay temps? or keep the cold air inside the pipe cold? as it is right now i may as well not even have an intercooler because that pipe is so hot and the air inside it must be too by the time it reaches the i/t manifold. let me know what you think good idea or bad?

the air is moving kinda fast through there. probably not gonna notice any difference if you wrap it.

I have the crappy clossover pipe setup and my cold pipe is never cold, its freakin hot all the time. I think it may help some, but it would be ugly. Id save for a forward facing intake manifold and new piping before anything else.

well "cold pipe" is a relative term

it will never be cold, or within 20 degrees of ambient air temps for that matter.

hahaha it sure is relative My junk gets HOT though, I hate it. The cold side of my FMIC is like ice, and the cold pipe is boiling.

yah my junk gets hot too sometimes, ive found the best fix for that is a cute girl and a bed.

I done did it wrap that their cold pipe in that their heat taype, i done didnt notice any betterness but my imagines says it must helps a little. i also wraped my z mc in heat tape

You want to leave your cold pipe unwrapped at least until it enters the engine bay. Theoretically speaking, the cold pipe could also be cooling the intake charge itself if it is exposed to air that is cooler than the intake air. I agree that insulating the intake pipe all the way to the throttle would be somewhat beneficial, albeit minor.

On a side note, how high of heat can that heat wrap take? I'm specifically wanting to know if you can wrap your turbo elbow in it to help keep heat away from the brake fluid reservoir?

heat wrap is for containing the heat, use that on an exhuast manifold. You want the insulated reflective sheilding wrap. Every little bit helps, if the price is not too crazy wrap er up. I have seen people weld fins on intercooler piping to add some heat dispersing ability as well. I used to shoot freon directly onto the intercooler when I staged. There a lots of tricks and all have some merit.

dude thats a waste of freon that stuff can get exspensive my fathers got a big bottle of the old stuff thats worth over a thousand dollars; i wouldnt waste it on the i/c plus its bad for the trees bro. lol. ive thought about a water sprayer i have a bunch of stuff to make a diy kit but i just havent gotten around to it. i would get one of those nx kits but i dont want hoses and bottles everywhere. with the w/s kit i was gonna use a stock wiper fluid bottle in the stock location to hold the water.

The fiberglas-like stuff would work fine for wrapping an elbow. It's rated to an extremely high temp.

Anyone who has the stock intake manifold and an IC setup with the cold-pipe on the passenger side willing to post up pics? I'm trying to determine the best route for my piping, thanks

I heat wrapped my exhaust housing and elbow the nigh before a drift event a few months back. Well, in the mornign I left for the venue, got about as far as the gas station down the street before my car started acting funny. I pull over, pop the hood, and the turbo/dump are glowing bright *** redd, from like a 1 mile drive (not driving it hard either). I took that crap off in a hurry.

that heat wrap job doesnt actually look that bad but now i want that i/c (no awkward cross pipe) anyone else using one of those? ive seen the godspeed stuff on egay is it good?

probobly good enough, looks like the way it flows seems more efficient than the others like it.
