Would there be any benifits to putting heat wrap on my stock manifold? I know it can make headers crack due to the extra heat and thin wall construction but it seems like the thick cast iron manifold could take it. The reason I dont get a header is that I plan on booting eventually and dont want to buy things i cant still use, but its still far enough away to make it worth it to me to wrap the manifold if i will get reduced underhood temps. Also I read that by containing the heat in it speeds up exhaust flow, does this only apply for headers since it seems the stock manifold gets pretty damn hot already? Just wondering if anybody has done this and how it worked out.

My header wrap just arrived. I'm about to do my stock exhaust manifold I'll keep you posted on how it does.

what's up guys i wanted to do the exact same thing! but for me it's due to heat shield noises... So S14 have you wrapped the headers yet? Also, what length did you buy or would be sufficient? Thanks!

well, why not just use the heatshield?

I am more worried about the cracking issue like you mentioned. It just doesn't seem worthwile to me. Remember that it is cast iron, which may look stronger, but due to it's porosity can be just as weak.

Anyway, are your underhood temps. really that high?

No, but the heat shield rattles and vibrations suck *** :)

yeah sometimes the bolts that hold the heat shield on break off from all those years of rust and heat. then the shield is loose, banging against the exhaust piping with the engine/exhaust vibrations.

Well here's a though: if the stock heat sheild is giving you funny noises, why not make your own heat shield. Go buy some aluminum sheetmetal, or maybe something with better heat properties and start cutting. I've never done one, but it doesn't seem too hard...

or just dont use any shielding... an NA manifold isnt gonna get that hot. i havent had a shield for months, nothings melted or caught on fire. plus, heat wrap stinks.
