I tried asking this in the tech forum, but once again, I got no help there. Sooooooo, back to my vert brotherhood for my question!

On one of my 240s, I just aint getting much heat at all. I have installed a new thermostat, I am sure system is completly burped. My slide control is working, and I can hear the door flap close. I am thinking that maybe the the fins around the outside of the heater are clogged not allowing the air to pass through them, and instead making it go around . Can I get to the heater core to vacume/blow it out? Where is it located, and can this be done without tearing entire dash out? Any other suggestions?

I notice I have been having the same issue. Do you think it's because of the terrible cold we've been having?

No I don't. My black one heats up very quickl;y and blows good hot heat. The red one does not even get close to giving out the same temp heat. Its kinda funny, the black one is also pretty darn good in the snow, the red one is like a fish out of water and spins if snow is in the air! Guess the red one is a summer car?

That's odd. I've looked through the FSA and it doesn't mention much about the heater problems. When you turn on the heater, do you not get very warm air, or do you not get good air pressure? Cause with mine I can turn it up full blast and I can hear air roaring, somewhere, but the vents barely breath any lukewarm air. Unfortunately I don't think there is much you can do without taking the whole dash off.

I have air flow, but just as you, it only gets luke warm no matter how long you drive.

I'm having the same problem. While I was flushing the system, and driving around with plain water it was unbearably hot. Then after refilling with the coolant it was just luke warm, and taking forever to warm up again.

I know on my way to rt. 15 my temp gauge went to cold, and then after I pulled over it went back to warm, so I think my issue may be with the thermostat.

I think you can pull the heater core out without tearing out the dash, so you could possibly do that and clear the whole thing out.

I know my heat did get a little better after the coolant flush, but it still wasn't what it's supposed to be.

Do you have a cooler thermostat installed? My heat hasn't been really great either but in Ohio it's been freezing out so unless the car runs forever it never feels like it's really warm heat. I would just drive the one with better heat and not worry about it You may just not be driving it for a long enough time to let it warm up. The guages will read that it is at normal operating temperature but with all of this cold weather while driving you are probably losing about 30 degrees off the cut. After 20 minutes of idling to warm up and my 15 minute drive to work my heat still doesn't want to melt the ice off of the windshield. I just assumed this is normal. When I first bought my 240 vert the heat was extremely intense but soon after that the waterpump failed and I just went ahead and changed to a nismo thermostat while I was at it. Adventually mine will heat up enough to melt ice it just takes awhile. I wouldn't worry to much about it if it's still heating it's probably just the weather. One waterpump could just be stronger then the other 240's as well. Even though you have more then one of the same model car doesn't mean they are the same. We all know that cars seem to have a mind of their own Anyhow hope you figure it out if something is wrong. I would just try to wait out the weather and see if it fixes itself before trying to tear everything apart. But then again I'm kind of lazy. Good luck bro.

I had that same theory with my Volvo, that it was because it was in the single digits lately, then it blew the head gasket coming home one day. So I'm afraid to let things go on the cooling system now.

I'm gonna just throw this out there, but are you all using a proper 50/50 mix of anti-freeze and water. Too much anti-freeze will cause the coolant to never really warm up and too much water will get real hot, but will transfer the heat to cold too quickly and freeze on cold days (not to mention crack the radiator when it sits on a cold night and freezes up). I would normally say I didn't have that problem down here, but it's been too cold for me lately and my baby stays in a nice warm garage at night..lol (good thing my wife doesn't read these posts often - Her 2005 Mustang stays outside where horses should).

Loki.. yours sounds like a the flapper door isn't opening enough or you have one hell of an air leak in your heater box.

How can I diagnose either of those problems? I know that my hot/cold switch doesn't go -all- the way to the right on my AC unit. When I removed the unit it appeared as though the cable connected to the switch was just a bit too short, but it always sounds like the unit converts all the way to heating when I move it to the right. Perhaps I'll pull it out again and see if I can extend that cable.

I would recommend pulling the heater core and flushing it out really well.

Often we inherit used cars that may have had the "coolant system" flushed in the past. But, it's very hard to flush the radiator and maybe run a little water through the engine block, and actually expect to get the pressure back to the heater core and actually flush anything out of there.

The heater core is tucked up behind the dash on the passenger side toward the center.

I haven't pulled one myself, so I don't know how much of a pain it is to get out o there... What I did was unhook the two ports in the firewall and put a bucket under the lower one and then put a high pressure hose on the top one and just blasted the water in there. I don't know if this is the best way to do it... but i did get some muck out of there, and it was sure a ton easier than being upside down under the dash trying to figure it out.

Thanks, I'm going to try that, Mine probably is still plugged up, because I got a lot dirt out of the whole system. It's like they filled it up with mud instead of coolant.
