Heat Soak Question

My buddys placed his intercooler right in front of the radiator, where the A/C was. How much will this effect the cooling efficiencey of the IC? Im thinking of doing the same, 1 to save the ic from rocks and other flying object, and also to shorten up the piping. His car has virtually no lag, partly due to the short pipes. But anyway, do you guys think its gona heat up the IC to th e point where its pointless?
