I think either my Heat Shield or Y Pipe are causing the dreaded rattling sound that many of you have experienced. I saw many threads about the diagnosis, but I did not see one in the cost of repair. Please let me know how much you paid to have either the Heat Shield or Y Pipe repaired. I have a 2006 M35x.

I have this issue and it's getting annoying. It doesn't sound terrible but I would like to fix it.

Also curious about repair cost.

Can not be repaired, you will need to get a new y pipe- I had the same issue. Look at Ebay pipe was like $125 and $110 to install in Canada.

Good luck

Will a Megan Mid-pipe solve this issue?

Mine was rattling bad, got new Y pipe from G37. No more rattle, sounds good. For AWD M you can get G37 z370 Y pipe

No, it is the pipe between the headers and mid pipe that causes the problem and is arguably the biggest restriction in the stock system. Headers to Y pipe (problem) to mid pipe to mufflers.

I picked up a Ypipe that came off of a 2012 G37...Although I don't have an M35X, it still works well with the M35 sport...better low end tq...got mine for $100

Just in case-No, these will not work on the 45 because the 45's have cats integrated into the pipe (35/37 pipes are too short for the 45).

^ true...the M45's require a little different set up. I think if I had the M45, I'd go custom from the Cats into a true dual exhaust -- leading to Megan axle backs :dblthumb:

Dean, didn't you customize your ypipe set up and remove your secondary cats?? I can't remember.

Yep: 2006-m45-y-pipe-the-beginning-t566657.html
Big improvement in performance and good improvement in mileage and still passes SMOG in Smognazifornia with no issues.

Thanks all for the information, but I am still looking for the total cost for the Y Pipe repair and the Heat Shield repair.

Get used Ypipe for 70-100$ and replacing it is about another 50$ or you can do it yourself if you have ramps.
So thats about $150 if you go to the dealer you will pay something stupid like $1500
