I want to take off the heat sheild thats connected to the manifold. the damn thing rattles like the engine going to fall out. i've tac weld it back on twice but the weld just doesn't hold or the guy who did it sucks at welding. what i was wondering is if i do take it off will it get to hot for maybe the powersteering and melt a seal or something. Or do i not worry about it and just get the damn thing off. thanx

It isn't necessary, just fab up a heat shield of your own- it's not too difficult. No need to make things hotter than you have to.

y not just use the thermal wrap instead of the metal heatsields? that'll keep the temps down w/out spending too much $

That wrap can get pretty damn pricey if you get the good stuff..

another "fix" to the heat shield rattle is to take a metal hose clamp and go around the heat shield, clamp it down in a few places and it won't rattle, looks like crap but the noise will be gone...thats my temp fix until i get exhaust

I don't think when I was N/A I ever ran with one. After market headers don't need heat sheilds.

i've had my exhaust manifold heat shield off for a couple weeks now, and i swear it runs a little faster.

Only issue though, is i'm always wondering if my spark plugs are melting since they are so close

yeah, for some reason i feel my car is faster also, strange.. maybe without the heat shield it dissapates heat quicker so allowing more power, i don't know , just a theory. it could all just be mental. i have those plug wire seperators on the valve cover and the plastic things on the wires, so im not worried about my wires touching my header. everything seems to be running great so far..
