I am thinking about removing the insulation on the underside of the hood for better heat dissapation of the underhood area.

Spacing the hood for a cowl effect is low on my list since I've got electronics near and on the fire wall and I don't want it to be too exposed to the elements.

Has anyone done this? If so, what are your impressions?

You don't have to have done this to vote, but please give specific reasons why it is good/ bad. Thanks. Is insulation removal ok for the paint?

i'm sure its not that bad, but i know my ricer friend took some of that interior paint and painted the inside dash parts, then left it out in direct sunlight while he went to school and it all bubbled up and looked even worse than before. but thats cheap interior stuff on plastic, not on metal so i dunno.

Just went and took that insulation off from under the hood. I also took the weather stipping off the rear of the hood area for a little bit of venting. Hopefully it will not let too much water in and hurt any of the electronics I've got there. Will have update after a while.

For anyone interested in removing the rear weather strip: Be warned that the heat coming out is right at the passenger compartment climate control intake. So if you do this, when you have it set to fresh, you will be taking in heat/ fumes from the engine compartment. Not a good idea if it's a really hot day or if you got leaks under the hood where you'll be huffing the fumes. Best to just set it to recirculate at all times.

I think the problem with those cars that get sun burned paint is that they sit in one place for more than 5 days straight. If you are going to leave it out in the sun, buy a car cover. Its not expensive and worth what it protects. Sun damage to your paint can't be caused by removal of insulation of the metal.. If I understand you are talking about the plastic and cardboard plates underneath your hood.... No damage that I know of will occur simply by taking out plastics from the hood. If anything it should help it breathe more and cool the paint when driven...... But then again I don't know **** about paint jobs..... lol
