This is going to be my first full summer with my 240sx since a this time last year when I first bought it, it had no engine until about Sept. Im already noticing that my car liked the cold weather a whole lot more then the coming heat.

Questions:

1. Is there any difference in the radiator for the E and the DE? (I have a DE that has a E radiator on it, I think)

2. Im planning on changing my exhaust system out do to the crapp I inherited from the previous owner. Will wrapping Hotshot headers make a big diffrence in under the hood temp?

3. How far and thick do you actually need to wrap the headers? (Ive seen pics where people have mummified the headers all the way down to the almost the exhaust cannister)

4 Any other Ideas for cooling?

You should NOT want to wrap your header. Wrapping the header is done to trap the heat inside, thus increasing the velocity of the exhaust gases. There's no question that there are venefits to wrapping it. However, I'm sure none of us have the money to keep on replacing headers.

When you wrap a header you trap the heat in and the metal itself will start to wear away because of the extreme temperatures. Sooner or later your header will have a hole in it. The ONLY thing I would reccomend you do to a header is have it ceramic coated.

If you want to reduce the under hood temps, buy an aftermarket hood with vents and such in it. Or install a hood scoop onto your stock hood.

That doesnt make sense to me. Why would metal deteriorate from hot exhaust gasses. The temperatures from turbos spinning should be hotter on exhaust systems than trapping the heat in with header wrap.

Lesser quality Headers will crack at the welds from heat.

My Hotshot is ceramic coated so I didnt bother. I am looking into allowing the air to escape the rear of the hood somehow... I thought about raising the rear of the hood a smidgen... but when I saw the RX-7 in this months SuperStreet I didnt want to be labled a biter.

damn the biting, if itll help itll help . . sides whos to say he didnt bite it off of some option video or tokyo extreme racer (thats where I first saw it)

neways . . . so lets say I get a ceramic coated header like the hotshot, which is what I had planned on getting neways would wrapping it help further or be pointless as far as heat is concerned .. . . down here in texas it gets hot as hell and its only been in the 80s lately and already my car is starting to suffer

Well I had planned on wrapping from header almost to the muffler. Im currently waiting on a reply email from SS headers about their thoughts on wrapping. I plan on going with their header so if they say it works fine I trust it. I can get their header without the ceramic coating and save some money then too.

SS is an inferior header. run away. Please oh please. everyone I have talked to that have them, hate them. spend the money and get what you need.

You know what, Nightshift... youre right. I'm raising the rear of my hood. I live in southern Arizona... Yeah... its damn hot...

If you would like to learn more about exhaust wrap and if it's right for you, then do a search on google for exhaust wrap. That is all.

Read that page and comprehend it. If in the end you still feel exhaust wrap is right for you, go for it!!!

after reading that Im pretty sure I dont want to use a heat wrap but Ill read around just to make sure. Okay then will the ceramic coating on the hot shot headers make a significant diffrence in under hood tempertures as compared to the stock manifold? Not trying to be anal but under hood temp is a big factor down here where the summers reach and stay at 115 sometimes.

Ceramic coating will definitely help keep the temperatures down.

On my car i noticed that underhood temps went down when i installed my header, and it's not even ceramic coated. The cast iron stock manifold just gives off alot more heat.
