ok, so my buddy just bought his first 240 and someone has really done a number on a couple parts of it. its a '95 base model. when he turns on his air or heat, it comes out strong but its always cold. when he brought it over i compared it to mine cause my stuff works perfect. the person before him had the 2 hoses that run from just under the intake to the firewall circulating.

the back one, which goes to the top hole in the firewall and goes through the valve, was connected to the hose that was supposed to come out of the lower hole in the firewall and it went right back under the intake again.

TRIED:1. i took the hose off and the valve works, we just have to manually open/close it. so i know its not clogged2. engine is running normal at about half way up thermostat gauge. so i kno its got temp3. i know the water pump is working cause both hoses on the radiator are hot. so i know the water pump is working.

I'm absolutely stumped on whats wrong. please help us out here. thanks

Does one hose get hot and the other stay cold? Could be the heatercore itself.

So, what your saying is, is that the heater hoses are bypassing the heater core and your wondering why there is no heat? Sounds like a no brainer, attach the hoses to the heater core properly, bleed the air out of it and use the heat. This is a very easy fix here. If your fan is only working at one speed, then you need a blower motor resistor...

If you have attached the hoses already and you arent getting heat. Then there may have been a reason why they bypassed the heater core...It might be shot, or clogged, etc...

I did redo the hoses so they are hooked up properly and there is no coolant running through the hoses, neither hose gets hot but both are clear/clean hoses. I was leaning towards the heater core, at the time didn't know what it was called, and thats what i'm thinking more now. How much of a project and roughly how long/much would replacing one cost?

does it require removing the dash, or can it be done by removing the glove box and radio and what not?
