Hi Bought a 2006 G35X. Happy with the car. Need to know if the AC is actually on--running-- when the button is on (lit up). I like to to recirculate the air so fumes don't come in and as many button combos I try the the AC light is on when I have the heat on and the recirculation option chosen. Does the AC just come on when needed--lower temps then the 20 degrees it is outside(I know defrost is different and it needs to be on)?ThanksRocko

Yes, recirculating the air will run the A/C at any time. Same goes for the defroster (as is with any car), however, with the G, you can turn the A/C off and have it blowing as the defroster (first time I've seen it personally).

Forgetting about the defroster--can I shut the AC off and have the heat on and recirculate? What I'm understanding is that the heat and AC are both on and the AC is cooling--while in recirculate. I have tried many button combos and I can't get just the heat on and recirculate the air.

Just seems like a waste of AC and drain on the engine.

Thank youRocko

The A/C can be used to heat or cool. In all reality, the A/C should be thought of more as an air dryer as it's purpose is to remove the moisture from the air.

Just about every Nissan/Infiniti with auto climate control does this (Altima and Max do too at least). It runs the AC to pull moisture out of the air so you won't fog up as badly when the weather is cold. Same reason it runs on recirculate - to keep the moisture from your breathing etc from building up and causing the windows to fog up. You can generally turn it off, but just be aware that you can fog up more quickly.

It acts more like a dehumidifier in the winter than an AC, and it doesn't have much of any impact on the heat output from the heater, the air coming out is still very warm once the engine is warmed up.

I actually have a hard time breathing when people turn the A/C off and only run the fans.

i was just trying to do that... here are my findings:

heat and a/c are independant except for two cases

1. if recirculate is on

2. if the front defoster is on

doesnt matter if you in manual mode either...
