In the new 2017 JD Power Vehicle Dependability Study, Infiniti is now the 3rd worst brand. only Jeep and Fiat are worse.

Here are the 2017 rankings:

In 2016, Infiniti was in the top third:

Pretty heartbreaking news for me. I've owned Infinitis for a long time, including the two M37s I own now. I always buy a 3 year old car so my next car would probably be a 2016 or 2016 Infiniti. Now, I am not so sure.

Also, I don't have the magazine with me but Consumer Reports now only recommends one Infiniti, the Q70/M37.

If anyone has any insight, I would love to hear it.

Ouch! I was a little butt hurt about my heater going out on a 3 year old car. Had to get a new heater core.

But wait a second here look at the article..it is dealing with model year 2014.

For Infiniti wasn't that the intro of the Q50?

You often see this with car makers that have few models and release a new model that is one of their best sellers. Not a good thing but I'd look Infiniti over a longer stretch.

Exactly because I believe that the issues with the '14 Q50 were addressed with the '15 model year

The JD Power survey is not all that reliable. Like you guys already mentioned, one bad model can alter the data. I have owned many Nissan branded cars and never had many troubles. I have a Dodge which was rated low also. Like I told my wife, we have had no issues as far as we are concerned. As far as JD Power is concerned we have had three, the review camera was not plugged in on delivery so we had to take it in the next day for that, there was a recall on the washer fluid motor, and a slight scratch on one of windows. Nothing to lose sleep about.

I have a fully loaded Q50 3.0t right now. The dealership loaned it to me while they are fixing my car. For the $50,000+ price tag, the car is definitely not worth it. The 300hp engine and the smaller frame makes the car seem moderately quick, but not that impressive. I can't imagine how slow the 2.0 model would be.

The dual-screen infotainment system looks awesome but it the worst thing I've used. There are few actual buttons so you have to do everything with the touchscreen. Not a great plan while you are driving. But I guess maybe you get used to it. The system itself is so slow that it is frustrating. I tried to use Pandora from my iphone. Half of the time when I plug in the phone, it tries to play the music from the phone, even though Pandora is open and playing. If you try and skip a song during the first 5 seconds, you get a message that says 'album art downloading, please wait'. You have to wait until the album art downloads to skip a track!

The car has a pretty cool 360 degree camera system. However, by time the camera finally loads, I've already parked.

The system in just laggy in general. Even adjusting the heat is laggy! The heat was set at 68 and I wanted it to go to 74 so I hit 'up' 6 times. About 2 seconds later, the heat went up to 71.

Outside of the silly intotainment system, the car is great. It has a nice interior. I love the new auto dimming side mirrors. The car seems to handle very well. It is smaller and more nimble than my car for sure. Also, the technology package seems quite a bit improved over my wife's 2011 M37.

What's the problem isn't that the only one we are talking about here ? i have watched reliability at Infiniti go down the tubes with that big land yacht [56 something] and then the replacement for the G [q50] but i always see the M ranked very high in quality , must be a different assembly line!!!

If you want real world data versus speculation on quality of vehicles over time, get familiar with this database, especially for vehicles 3 years and older.

Infiniti is just behind Lexus and Toyota.

If someone were to review Consumer Reports, they would get a low rating. They constantly poo poo things based on faulty data, opinions, and consumers who do not use products properly. I have NO faith in Consumer Reports.
I'm sure that the first year for the Q50 may have had issues, but the report paints the entire company with that same brush and that is what makes these reports unreliable.

Around October 2015, my wife and I both traded our cars in for newer cars, both were 3 years old coming off a 3 year lease. She had a '05 Mustang and I had a '07 Acura MDX. She bought a '12 RDX with 35k miles and I bought a '12 M56x with 52k miles. I owned one other Nissan, a '99 Altima that I had bought for my son back around 2007. This is my first Infiniti product. I will say that so far, I have thoroughly enjoyed this car. Only issues I've had so far is the left side illuminated floor plate not lighting up all of the letters, and timing chains, both were replaced under warranty. I love the body style much more than the comparable Lexus, BMW or Mercedes models. Only other car in this class that I would look at would be the Audi sedans.

I wouldn't read too much into the reports. Folks will have different experiences with different brands. I've always had good luck with Ford and Honda products. Only GM products I had good experience with was my first and second car, a '76 Camaro with the 305 cid motor and A/T, and a '76 Sunbird with the 231 cid motor and A/T, and my wife's '81 Chevette. All three gave us excellent service during the whole time we owned them. The later GM models gave us nothing but problems. So far, Infiniti is looking good.

If you've been satisfied with your M37's, I don't see any reason to change unless you just want to try something different.
