hey guys, my vert got broken into awhile back and they took my headunit. so for all this time i've been driving with no music because i'm afraid of not getting my headunit taken again but having my window smashed. i'm thinking of relocating my new headunit to my glove box but there's not much room there. so does anyone else have any good ideas? or have this been done before? i've searched and found nothing. thanks

relocating to the glove box doesn't sound like a bad idea. just make sure you get one with a good remote. any idea on what you'll put in the center to take it's place?

the thing about 240 glove box is that its too small. i have to cut something beyond the glove box for space. i could do it but it'll take some time and homework. i got a good deck with a good remote so the glove box will be locked at all times. i got the three gauge from autometer so i guess ill do somethin special with them

i've never had my headunit stolen, but can't you just remove the face plate, who'd want to steal one without the face on it??

You can get faceplates for any stereo.

I would just install a car alarm into my car unless you already tried that.

You might consider mounting that head unit in the original loc. using some anti tamper screws. You can make these yourself. Take a slotted screw and grind off the upper left and the lower right quarter so the screw will only tighten and not loosen. Make sure you have a plan to get them out yourself when you need to. (like needle nose vise grips).Or maybe even some small flats on each side that you can get a wrench on. Good Luck w/that.

It would be cool if you could mount the head unit in a recessed fashion in the DIN slot below the stock location. You could then create a blank plate to put over it when the car is not in use. Some head units have multiple mounting points, so you might be able to pull it off without too much trouble.

I saw the post the german vert and his vert did not have a head unit so you can just put the digital gauge in without installing the head unit so you would not wreak your dashboard. That is what i am doing to mine. Just look at the German vert post and its on the second page so you could see what it looks like.

i got an alarm installed but i'm still not convinced that they'll back off my car because i have two cars and i switch over time to time. so when i drive my acura the 240sx is just sitting there being vulnerable. thinking in the way a thief would think, they'll still break in a car with or without a faceplate because they go through your whole car trying to find that faceplate. and say you do take it home with you, they still smashed your window so you still lose out either way.

I installed mine to the lower din slot so that you have to take the car out of park and into at least neutral to even think about getting it out. Only works with an auto though. ?-If you keep it locked in the glove box, it would be hard to change out cd's. You can always modify your middle console, or mount it under a front seat.

Does anyone besides me remember pull-out stereos? I'm getting old.

There are some Kenwood head units that fold the face plate in, so that all that is showing is what looks like a "factory blank". I put one in my M30 'vert, and had a similar set up in my CRX back in the early 90's using a Blitzsafe set up. It was a motorized DIN sleeve that retracted the HU in, and then closed a "door" to cover the opening.

Wish I had pics.

i thought about the cd part too but it has so much features like ipod jack, usb port so all my music will be available and controled by my remote. i went through 6 months without music in my car so i'm sorta use to it.
