Can someone post a photo of a heads up display powered up on the windshield.

Looking to swap my gauges for a HUD, but I am worried the projector image will not show up well on my standard windshield in my Vert.

I read through the excellent write up on converting (thanks this will healp a lot!!!), & since I will have the dash out to install the A/C, it seems like a perfect time.I hear some people put tint on the W/S to improve projector image, want to hear your thoughts.

I went to a Nissanparts website and asked about getting a new patch of whatever that silver material is for my HUD and they said that it is in the glass and that you cannot buy that OEM piece standalone. So whatever you come up with that works...let me know!

As far as I know, HUD windshield is like $500+ from Nissan. Crazy...

Yeah, sorry. It's $1500, not $500.

i've heard from a lot of people that you don't need to add anything at all. however a piece of tint (or something similar) will help visibility during the day. you can always try to find an HUD stirp for an aftermarket projector or something along those lines.

if all else, it's cool to have a digirtal speedo in your cluster at least.

price for the windshield is crazy - maybe explains why they are rare. Do all HUD's (ie GM, ford, etc.) use this same "special windshield" technology, or is their projector style different???

Yeah DeXter, that's what I am going for. Originally, I thought I would keep it stock, but the more I read about you guys, the more I want something unique. A HUD equipped vert with a 5 spd. & A/C in Canada should be pretty unique eh??

it's not just us. cars are drugs. they get you high. they take you low. you can't ever get enough either way. they take your money. they take your life.

once you get the addiction under control, it's all good.

FWIW, I just did the reverse swap...I put an analog speedo in place of my digital unit.Anyway, my car had a replacement (non-HUD) windshield and you could still see the HUD fine at night...but in the day not so good. While on this topic...if anyone is interested in the digital cluster and / or the patch harness - holla' at me. BTW, the speedo is typical - intermittent, and I never got around to the repair.

I didn't do the windshield swap...the PO had it replaced. In my state (TN) it is the law that your insurance company has to provide a new windshield if you get a crack, fisheye, or major scratch, etc...so it is free to get a new one. Had I been the one that was around when the new one was being installed, I would have demanded the HUD window. He was like 16 or 17, so he probably didn't know, didn't care, etc.

If you are asking about the time to swap clusters and patch harnesses...it took about 2 hours. If I did it again I could probably do it in one hour, however.

pictures of a working HUD would be great.

I have seen a few, but all either sitting on a work bench, or in a scrap yard.... None actually powered up displaying information!!

it just displays what the digital speedo is displaying iirc, it's been a while. So, just speed and the either mph/kph

you can also use a small square of 5% mirror tint, works 99% as well as the "Nissan window technology" lol and costs like a buck.

Here you go.Apparently the windshield in this car was damaged and replaced at some time because the little HUD foil thing is gone and there are new seals on the windshield but even without that foil it stills shows pretty good.

Tinting should do the job, also DEFI sells a piece of reflector for like $10. Is to used with their gauges, but it also works with the regular HUD. I'm not really sure what material is made out of.

Chances are most cars that are up to 18 years old (as these are) will have a windshield replacement by now. On the same lines, I would bet nobody is gonna give some astronomical price for the HUD specific window when $200-300 will buy you a new (aftermarket) windshield, installed.

Anyway, I just remembered that the US 240 brochures have a really nice clear picture of the HU display working as it is meant to...and I know you guys have picked up a brochure by now, if not all years at least of your model (as any real 240 guru should). So check that out.

The Defi part number for the display film is DF05702. Here are the measurements: 4in x 4 3/4in or 100mm x 120mm. Here is what it looks like:

Oh yeah, it sales for $7. Here is where I found it: http://www.tein.com/defi/lineup_top.html
