I'm pretty neutral in my feelings to my HUD. I thought it was a cool feature when I initially bought the car . . . but:
1.) At nighttime in low-visibility (fog, rain, etc.) conditions I'll shut it off because it floods my eyes with excess light when they need to be taking all of the light reflecting off the road surface they can get. I have very good eyesight (my one good sense :pface ).
2.) During bright daytime, the light of the HUD can often be obscured by sunlight to the point of unreadability.
3.) I have that damn lights out problem that kills my gas flow at 3500 RPM in 5th!!!!!! Not a comment about the HUD; but I've only seen people that have HUDs report this which leads me to believe Nissan's poor HUD design is the culprit :squint .
4.) The HUD's digital speedo only updates a little under once a second. Not only does this occaisionally make heal-and-toe shifting after coasting in neutral for a bit an issue; but it also makes the cruise control rather jerky.
1 & 2 could be fixed simply by a light sensor which could adjust the light level of the HUD to an appropriate level (my $20 GE alarm clock has a similar feature and it works perfectly). 3 is simply Nissan's bad digital dash design (any other Nissan I've seen with a digital dash has had problems). We Nissan owners are fortunate to be able to put so many miles on our cars; but those damn dashes they stick in there always give out. 4 could prolly be fixed by a faster processor . . . or perhaps there are other architectural limitations. I wish someone would come out with an aftermarket dash to eliminate these problems for the 240SX. I know I'd buy it.
To be a little more upbeat, I love my bigass, centered tachometer!
