I'm currently running the OEM CA16DE in my 1987 Nissan Pulsar. I have a chance to snag up a fully rebuilt CA18DE cylinder head for $80. Are the heads the same? I mean I might just buy it any ways for the eventual CA18DET swap, but I wanted to see if I could use it with my current engine.

Yeah man, should be. Everything else is the same. If you swap heads, keep those CA16 cams. The intake cam is slightly higher lift (8.5mm instead of 7.8mm) than the one on the CA18, and unlike the ol' dual exhaust cam trick everyone does, the CA16 cams need no adjusting. Just drop it in and go.

I'm not so sure about that. I'm not 100%, so don't quote me, but something in the back of my mind says the combustion chambers and valves are smaller on the CA16 than they are in the CA18. I could be wrong though.

You could still use it, it would just drop the compression a little, but you'd gain some air flow, so it'd probably balance out.

I beleive the valves are smaller on the CA16 head from what i have heard.

Also, the inlet manifold flange and the head water outlet is different.
