without knowing what make/model/style or anything it's difficult to say specifically how to wire yours up. I can say that the most common setup is black=ground, red=accessory/ignition 12V+. Some also have a constant power wire that could be yellow. Some brands I've seen the red and yellow reversed. You can use the switched power for your radio to power it typically. That way they will power up whenever the radio is able to play.

What radio wire did you try to connect it to and what model/year vehicle? Do you have any details of all of the wires on the monitors? I just installed some Power Techniques (I think that was the name) last week that are headrests with monitors already built in and they only used one power and one ground wire. The power is wired to switched power so it turns on/off with the key. Only other connection that is required is the video signal which is an RCA connection. They did have some audio inputs but I was not using them for that install.
