I have an 07 G35 and Im looking at installing headrest DVD players (3 kids). The dealer wants $1700, Local shop wants $1500-1600.

I see adjustable/universal units on Ebay for $200-400 and to me the install should only involve routing wires and getting power to the units....ie., not tough.

Am I missing something?

Anyone have any experience with the units on Ebay or otherwise doing it themselves?

Thanks.

It shouldnt be that tough if you have any experience with this type of thing...mostly connectivity. Where are you running your DVD signal from? This may be part where they charge you to dismatle the car. And they charge a lot for this.

If you are looking at playerds on ebay, I'd suggest finding out the brand and model# and verify if it is a decent unit to determine if its lower price is worth it or not.

Don't we have sponsor here who does that? If I remember right we have. He can install it for you in the headrest and wire it up. I though it was cheaper ten the prize you posted.

The ones I'm looking at are all self contained units that have there own DVD player and screen in each headrest. Some come with an FM modulator so you can tune into the players on the radio, but I'll probably stick with having the kids use the head phones.

Sponser? Link?

Sorry I don't know link and I don't know if I've seen it here or somewhere else on the net.

That's exactly what I've seen.

Bought my wife a G35 as a surprise BD gift today. I did some research and took it to one of the best install joints in town for the same setup. I used an Alpine 2 screen box set and a thin DVD player for the glove compartment. I would use the top glove compartment if you dont have Nav. bottom if you do. They install some input unit that can also handle video games and cameras. You can also the video routes to the Nav screen for the added cost of $400 for the part and $ for istall labor. Don't go too cheap and find a custom shop (Best Buy and the likes) do not cut into your head rests. My head rests would barely fit the screen size but they said they could get it done. Cost: right under $1500.About 1/3 going to labor. The self contained DVD players sounded good to me at first but my wife and I want to control what our child watches (We only have one so far) I can see in the future with older children wanting to watch different things being an issue. Good luck on that one!
