headlights wont stay up in my 93

all was well yesterday, headlights would stay up with the lights on or off. today when i was washing my car i had them down while i was waxing and when i went to put them up(lights off) they popped up and immideiately went down again. they will stay up but only if the lights are on, if i have them set to stay up then they go down with the lights

Hit the headlight button to the left of your steering wheel.

you must think im an idiot. ive been pressing the damn button to make them come up but as soon as they come up they go right back down on there own
