headlights won't retract

drove to work this am, turned off lights, lights did go out but they didn't retract. never done this before. can anyone offer suggestions? thanks

I dont know from experience ...yet... but my friends firebird had a blown headlight...when he turned them off they would stay up so you can change it. I Imagine though that since there is a switch to lower and raise them....that may not be the case. Have you checked that switch to see if it works also? I appologize for not being more helpful...

Hmm, you should first test the ground to see if they have come loose. Pop the hood, and you will see two motors, one for each headlight. They are located by the actual headlight. Now follow the black wire running from each motor that screws directly to the chassis. Yank them to see if they are loose or not. I would also turn on the lights, remove the top caps from the headlight motors, and attempt to screw the little brown caps counter-clockwise (actual, I’m not sure which way it is, whichever way, screw it to bring the headlight down, if all else fails just screw them both ways), if they kick or surge after a few turns you still have power to the motor and they may still be salvageable.. This method may also knock some corrosion loose inside the motors themselves. Sometimes my right headlight will delay to come up for a few seconds, so I kick/surge motor and its good for a month or so.

hmmmm, i dont think mines the same prob, up/down switch works fine, when their down and i turn on the lights, the lights come on but not up, untill i hit the up/down switch, then they come up, when i turn off the lights they go down...... maybe sumn broke in the handle??
