I have a 2000 I30t and I'm the original owner. Some while ago the RH front headlight started to turn off occasionally when the turn signal canceled and the stalk snapped back into place.
The problem has worsened. Now the RH headlight is permanently off and the LH headlight will now go off quite frequently when the turn signal auto-cancels.
By turning the lights switch into the OFF position, waiting a few moments and then into the on or auto position I can get the LH light to come back on, and used to be able to get the RH one to come back on the same way.
The high beams on both sides operate just fine.
I haven't switched the two bulbs yet to test to see if the RH is blown, but from the symptoms I'm guessing that I either have an intermittent short somewhere, or that there is an issue either with the system on the turn signal stalk or the HID control unit or Booster (per page EL-59 on problem diagnosis).

Can anyone point me in the quickest direction to isolate the issue and include enough detail for me to be able to locate the various cables and units please. I have the Infiniti Mechanic's Repair Manual, but I could do with a little more help.

Thanks
Mike

As expected, switching the two bulbs makes no difference, the RH still does not function and the LH works fine, so both bulbs are good.

A friend of mine has a 30 year old ford car that has had the same issues.
He has actually had smoke come out from his steering column
He is good enough mechanically to use some electric tape and gorilla glue to keep
the old turn signal equipment in use
He also keeps a fire extinguisher handy for himself or others
In your case, you might review your repair manual and consider a trip to the junkyard
for the part. If you take it off at the junkyard, it would be good practice just in case
