Headlights

Wondering if anyone can give me a straight answer??...

I have a 99 QX4 and a rock hit my passenger side headlight. I was looking around online for a replacement headlight and i came across TWO different lights. One says its a 97-99 assembly which looks exactly like the one on my car right now--- but the other one i found looks like one of those newer HID "crystal" type headlights and it says it fits "1999-2000"..

does anyone know if the 99 & 00 models have the same size headlights?

Anyways - theres always discrepancy when it comes to the 99 vs. 99.5 models. QX4 had several changes halfway through 99 which makes things confusing for "99" owners, because you dont know if yours is a 99 or a 99.5

97-99 QX4's had a darker housing headlight with 9004 bulbs 99.5-00 had a crystal housing but its still not HID, they have 9003 bulbs The headlight will bolt right on but your headlight bulb will not fit in the housing without modification 01 they changed the headlights completely

Thanks for the info on the headlights. So lemmie get this straight-- to use the crystal lights-- would i just have to switch out the plugs to fit the 9003 bulbs? Sounds too easy to be true. haha..

Well fueler summed it up very nicely, i knew about the difference in the headlights, being a 99.5 owner, but however did not know about the bulb difference! And as fueler also mentioned...welcome!

Does anybody know if the 01+ QX4 headlights physically fit a 97 QX4? I'm not concerned with the wiring, just the actual fitment of the headlight assembly. I'm buying a 97 and I want HID lights, but I really want the OEM HID from the 01+. Any info would be greatly apprieciated.

As for the discrepency between the 99 and 99.5, if the newer headlight mounts to the older truck and the bulb is the only difference, it is ver easy to order a harness for a 9003 bulb and wire it to the 99 harness. They will both have 3 wires, - ground, + low bean, and + high beam.

thats what i love about my 99.5, its such a huge difference in a qx4 owners eyes to have that crystal housing. As for the 01+ headlights, its been done, but as other members of this amazing forum have told me, youd have to buy extra parts from an 01+.....the least would be a grille and that piece below each light, hood and bumper MIGHT be required, and dont forget...OEM housings and HID kits are super expensive. your better off getting a cheap HID kit from ebay, not as great performing or looking, but wayyyy cheaper and less time consuming..spend your money doing preventative maintenance on your qx4! this forum has proven to me the motor is rock solid as long as you take proper care of it

Yeah I began piecing together 01+ parts. . haha. . I'm fairly sure all you need is the grille and piece below it. . the hood / quarter panels look identical, and the bumper will probably fit.
