i have a 1990 Nissan 240sx and my headlights don't work. They turn on but don't go up or down. I have checked the fuse (obviously) all the relays seems to work (they click). I was told there was a timer control module or something by the the drivers feet. Can someone tell me what it looks like or if you have any idea of what it else it could be. thanks for the help.-Travis

Guess I get to pop your cherry (stick around NICO and you'll know what I am talking about), are you ready? USE THE ****IN' SEARCH FUNCTION! There, that wasn't so bad was it? Welcome to NICO. BTW, I know that this has been answered, because I a few of the answers for this. Don't get frustrated, that's just how it is around here. The timer module is a green box next to the firewall. Also, a burnt circuit in the gauge cluster is rumored to cause this. I have the same problem, and have yet to look at the manual for it. You do know that there are two relay boxes?

I had an account on Nico for a long time but i hadn't used in in several months and couldn't remember my username or my password so is a new account i made just to post this question so i guess you are not the first to answer my questions.

The headlight timer is by the fuse box.identify it by colour of wires going to it.I assume you tried the retraction switch?

the headlight timer and time control unit are both by the fuse block.

I would create a condition where the lights are off and the retraction switch is depressed to allow lights to retract. This makes the circuit simpler.then measure the inputs at the left retraction motor. Also measure the inputs when it is being closed. That should tell you what part of the circuit is not working.

Did your retraction switch work? If your retraction switch works but not headlight switch that is pretty easy to diagnose, I asssume.

if you tell me what you measure at the 5 terminals on the left motor or 10terminals on headlight timer I can tell you what is happening.(measure with lights off as you push retraction button with it intially in closed position). if , for example, you were testing terminal 1 (brown-yellow) on headlight timer, youd test between the termninal and ground. if you get 12volts, the terminal is 12v positive. if nothing, test between the terminal and 12volts positive. if you get 12 volts, the terminal is ground. if you dont get 12 volts either time, you know the terminal has no charge.
