I was driving down I-75 on my way home and after hours of driving along fine my lights went out and my battery light came on. Then everything came back on but the gauge cluster was super bright and my headlights were out. I heard this buzzing under the dash so I turned everything I could off. The bright cluster went away but my headlights were blown out yet all of my fuses were fine. WTF?? I switched out my headlights and everything works fine now. Any ideas what went bad? I know it was a power spike but what should I do now?

Sounds like an alternator. I think the voltage regulator is part of the alternator.

You might want to take a look at your alternator or your regulator for your alternator. Not sure if the regulator is on the alternator or separate. But that would be the first place i'd look. That would be the only place a spike could originate from. I know that alternators produce a/c current and that they use diodes to change it to d/c. But if the diodes go bad you can have a/c current get through. From what I remember that can cause some issues. Or if the regulator is bad and letting too much voltage through that could be the source of your spike as well. Since your fuses didn't blow that makes it even weirder. I'll have to ask my physics teacher about it. He's a guru with all things electrical and see what he thinks. But i'm thinking something with the alternator in one way or another.

Ya it's really strange. It's been a week now and I've driven it all over and no sign of that problem since. Everything works fine now. No telling if it's gone come back or not.

that sounds like what happend to my headlights also... the cause of mine was where the headlights and whatever else plug into the battery. it turns out some majorrr wiriring issues had happend. but check to make shure that is plugged in all the way. just a suggestion and no promises if it will work.
