In my brand new (to me) 240sx whenever the headlights open up/ turn on, they work fine. The drivers side headlight however will not lower once it has lifted up.

I really don't know much about the 240's yet so if I have to tear down the motor that raises the light please put it simply... My guess is maybe a bad relay or ground that tells the light to go back down?? The headlights lift up at the same speeds, and its not immpossible to keep turning the little screw next to it for as long as I own the car, but its very inconvient and a litle annoying

Have you checked to see if the motor is working, or if the connecting rod attached to the motor has broken or come loose?

I would check the plug on the motor as well. If it was a loose connection it could cause these issues.

I had the exact same problem, I pulled the motor and took it apart to find it full of water...the motor itself was fine, but the contact wheel inside was really corroded. With your headlights turned off and the broken one in the open position, you should be able to spin that adjustment wheel on top a little bit and the headlight will go down or the motor will resist or "jump" If it does this, I bet that contact wheel is f*** up

When I turn the knob on next to the headlight it lowers without any resitance. I have never seen it twitch or jump when it was being raised.

What is the connecting rod am I looking for?

I say this because the actual plastic piece on the end there snapped on mine and the rod got stuck open and wouldn't close as well, or if i got it to close it wouldn't reopen.
