Ok.. new member here and new Maxima owner... I have an 07 Maxima SE without the HID option so obviously I have the halogen lamps...My question is... what bulb type is in there?, is there one bulb? and are these light housings set up that a solenoid or actuator moves a reflector shield to adjust the high and low beam? I am trying to find out these answers so I can purchase a good aftermarket Xenon kit for this car and need to know the specs. I have called 2 dealers including the one I purchased the car from and I cant believe the service Dept are such idiots, they know nothing... I'm ready to make a trip down there and make a mechanic look at it but figured I try here first. Any help is appreciated.

Doesn't your owner's manual tell you what kind of bulb is in there?

the manual will tell you to see the dealer. i would personally like to see your halogen low beam when you get it out. i have had a few customers recently argue that the low beam on their 04+ max was not HID. i was unser the impression that as of late 01 every max came stock with HIDs. even the dealership says so. anyways, heres what i say do:

1) get the bulb out, if its halogen, it will have the part number on it. get an HID conversion kit for that bulb number. Tangier Light has the broadest selection i've seen yet, and great prices for that matter.

2) if its HID, get a D2S (or D2R, whichever it is) in like 6 or 8000K.

Maximas only had HID starting in '02.

HID was standard from 02-03.

When the 6th gens arrived, in '04, HID was optional.

I don't know if HID is still optional on the 6th gens, but it very well likely could be.

As for the headlights, if you have HID already, then it's Bi-Xenon (IIRC), and like jltibbs said, you'll need a D2S bulb (but only if you want to change color). Remember that the higher up you go in the K scale, the less light the bulbs put out.

I'm not familiar with the 6th gen halogen headlights, but I was under the impression that the low-beams were simply single filament bulbs. If that is indeed the case, then all you'd need is a single xenon "kit."

Factory HID for 6th gens is Bi-Xenon (high and low beam in a single lamp).

HID is still optional on 6th gens. That is to say, yes, you can still get a Maxima with halogen headlights. As of '07 (I believe) they're standard on SL and optional on SE.
