What would cause one headlight not to go back down? My headlights go up and cut on, but when I cut them off, my driver side stays up. The button on the left of the steering wheel makes them go up, and once again the passenger goes down and the driver side stays up.

Ive searched and searched, but if it was the headlight motor, I would think that it wouldnt ever work right? I even tried that cutting the headlights off and disconnecting the negative terminal, then making them go up or down and reconnectting the negative terminal...didnt work.

My original assumption was that something may have been blocking it from going down, but I can manually make it go down...so...any ideas?

Well I found this on 240sx.org FAQs:

"There are two headlight retracting relays, one for each headlight. One of them may be defective causing your problem. The relays are located on the driver's side of the engine up front under the air filter air box. You might try swapping them to see if the problem goes over to the other headlight."

I'll try it tomorrow and see...but still, if you have any other suggestions, let me know.

Nope, my friends 240 is doing the same thing, but his... both don't go down... so we made a little switch for his, push button to go up push again to make it go down but it don't go down so we made a switch with a relay so when we press the switch, the headlights go down... kinda getto coz you have to manually raise it because turning on the headlights don't make the lights pop up.

Hell, cool with me, got any pics or instruction on it? I really dont know much about electronics, I basically just need something to make my driver side headlight go down.

If you get it down, will it pop up? coz it's different and probably won't work if doesn't go up or go down and is just stuck in the up position. If it does pop up after you screw the plastic top on the motor to make it go down, then I'll give you directions on how to do this.

If they both start down, when I push the button or cut the headlights on, they both go up. When I want them to go down, the passenger side goes down, but the driver side stays up.

I have never been inside the headlight motor, but my guess it works close to the same as your window motor. It may a magnet in it or it may be an coil. Anyway the lights go up the polarity is going one direction, when they go down polarity is reversed, This causes the light to go up an retract, check this out and see if it helps. there may be a break in the coil for negative polarity or magnet.
