Edited Post - I now did it myself and am saving my directions for future people:

Now I finished installing the new headlight relay. The J30 DIY instructions at http://www.fuzzycats.com/j30_diy.htm aren't quite relevant to me or at least my 1997 j30t

First I unscrewed the top two screws on the cruise control thing with the wire going to the engine (This step is optional, makes it slightly easier to do step 2)

Then I used a ratchet to unscrew the (single screw) that holds on the plate which in turn is attached to the headlight relay. Then the relay comes loose.

Then remove the top and right screws and wingclips on the wheel well/mud guard (This all takes place at the left front tire).

Reach up and pull out the two plugs that connect to the relay. This is tricky, you have to press that button to loosen them, then pull (but not on the wires). This can be very difficult and time consuming.

Then Pull the old relay out, put the new relay in (ignore the metal plate for the moment), attach the two cables to the bottom (there is no way to put the wrong ones in they have different # of pins), . Then test. You should now have both headlight units working. THen put the plate from the old relay into the new one (try gently hammering it in if you have to.

Rescrew the newly attached plate to the same hold that held the old relay.

Reattach wheel well.

This took me several hours but I haven't worked on cars in a long time nor did I have proper directions for my model year (?)

DONE
