I just picked up my 2005 G35 Coupe and the sticker says it has Xenon headlights, but I am looking at replacing with the halo type and says its a direct replacement without balast, to use factory one, how do I know if I truly have the Xenon with a balast or not.

2007+ G35 Sedan and 08+ G37 coupe only came with HID but I believe prior versions had either/or?

Yes, you can purchase a HID retrofit kit if you truly have halogens. If you have HID's already then you may need to replace the bulbs.

I think all 2005+ G35s have HIDs. If you have leather, you definitely have HIDs. As long as you have the mid-cycle refresh, you definitely have standard HIDs. I think the only year that there weren't HIDs was the year they had the BASE G35 sedan without leather (2003).

I had the 07 coupe and the headlights were great. If you want more of a blue color, then you'll need to get different lights, but they'll probably be darker.

If you're positive it's an 05, then you should have factory HIDs and ballast. 03 and 04 were the only years without HIDs and still virtually all G35s from 03,04 had them. This is the reason why a reference may say halogen bulbs will fit your car, although they wouldn't fit on a car with HIDs.

Do a little research. WHAT says it's a direct replacement? Did you look at your car's owner's manual? Have you checked various websites to find out the replacement bulb for your car?

Actually, I believe the 2006 G35's have HIDs. I know it was a mod to upgrade the lights from a 2006 when I had my 2005 coupe.

I believe the mod was just because of the change in style. And I believe the mod was to use headlights from an 07 coupe.

I'm fairly sure any car with leather (all refreshed v35s) had HIDs.
